@RoxySiren: Thanks for the report. Unfortunately no BQ - but at least OOTB + EOY. BTW: What a pity you missed the Oktoberfest if you like Munich beer ;-)

@DCJ: Such a google translation chain could lead to a fascinating new art. It's up to us to try it ... F + B: In my opinion you cannot judge the films, books and photographs of Leni Riefenstahl without considering the NS ideology she worked for (and never understood what she had done wrong). I know that there are a lot of artists even in the UK and in the States who think such a separation is possible so Bryan Ferry is not alone in this respect ...

PS: I'm looking forward to my Ferry day. I'm really excited about his new band ('Ferry Music' :-)). Oh yeah, there'll be this band playing on the stage tomorrow - and maybe more than this, there'll be nothing ... I'll post a review on Friday, -p-

Looking forward to your review, Pianoman.

I'll cook myself a chicken soup tomorrow, the constant rain is finally getting to me. Since yesterday I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. This would really be the worst of all possible times.

Cher Oberon,
The best part of this interview — long may Bobby reign - W2 loves Border Terriers !
More than this, The Bonny Lad has clearly had his annus horribilis.
Hopefully all the clouds have now lifted.
Windswept is looking forward to Brighton after he's finished his European rehearsals.
Salutations,

" 'Avonmore' is soon being re-released as a deluxe version with many re-mixes. He said that one of his sons was a DJ and had asked some of his colleagues to re-mix some 'Avonmore' tracks."

I guess these would include the re-mixes that cropped up on Soundcloud through the year (Loop de li , Lost, Avonmore.)

I enjoyed the Olympia re-mix album , but I'm not sure I want to buy Avonmore again to get these. ( Ok, I will)

PS: 5 years since Olympia

Same here. I'm having mixed feelings about buying the album again, too. But on the other hand after a while the Olympia remixes turned up on iTunes and amazon as an mp3 album of their own, so maybe I'll just be content with the mp3 download and not buy the album again.

Avonmore deluxe - at last, wonderful!

Hoping for a selection of the BF Soundcloud remixes especially Lost and some live versions too from the recent jaunt including Can't Let Go.

I suggest that BF tap into this use of Google Translate for his next set of lyrics. So here's a start. I took the lyrics of Driving me Wild, translated them into German, and then took the German text and translated it back to English. I've cut out some of the stanzas, but - at least to me -the result below seems considerably more intriguing than the original version

Hilarious!

Well, dear friends, what can I say – I am still deeply impressed of this evening with our hero, Bryan Ferry. A retrospective of his career, a sign of life telling us that we can still count on him and a party with loyal Roxy fans of all generations.

First of all: RoxySiren’s cats and dogs had moved over from Munich to Stuttgart. But thanks to God this was no open-air concert ... Femme Schmidt as support act were a pleasant surprise to me when they started to play ‚Same Old Blues’ with the lyrics ‚Have you heard the rumour, Bryan Ferry’s in the house ...’. During the show Bryan gave thanks to Femme Schmidt for their well done opening act.

Thanks to the air conditioning system right over our heads we tried to change our seats – and then managed to move to the third row. This was some kind of Roxy heaven – Bryan only three meters away from us! The venue itself was relatively small and intimate. A perfect concert hall for classical and jazz music (Diana Krall will be the next artist to play there).

And then – the lights went low ... Lucy, Jorja, Fonzi, Neil, all the others and then Bryan entered the stage and received a very warm welcome. ‚Avonmore’, ‚Driving Me Wild’ and ‚Slave To Love’ were suitable openers. 43 year old ‚Ladytron’ still had a lot of that early Roxy furor, the retro charm of the feather boa era.

By the way, pregnant Jorja Chalmers (-Renn) played soprano sax instead of oboe - and was the princess charming of the audience. It must have been very stressful for her to do her job standing up all the time. She (and Paul Beard) played Kurzweil and Nord keyboards. I can’t tell which keyboard brand Bryan used to play because of the flight case around the instrument.

Luke Bullen treated his drums precisely, Paul Beard was a serious, excellent keyboard player whereas Jimmy Sims had a beard but not the appropriate surname. He played a slap bass solo during Roxy’s ‚Stronger Through The Years’. By the way, I never had the impression that this band was ‚Roxy Lite’. They were a team of excellent stage musicians with only one problem: Jacob is not Phil, Luke won’t be Paul and Jorja can’t fully replace Andy ...

Jacob Quistgaard and Neil Hubbard changed their role as lead guitarists but were both maestros of their instrument. Lucy Wilkins was brilliant when she (mis)treated her violin while playing ‚Out Of The Blue’. One of many Roxy songs on the setlist. And they all worked perfectly. Unfortunately ‚Do The Strand’ was kicked out but it was replaced by ‚Loop De Li’, a song which was accepted very well by the audience. Yesterday I liked the Dylan duo (‚Bob Dylan’s Dream’ & ‚Don’t Think Twice’) even if I think that one of them had been enough.

Most of the songs were presented in shortened versions. Sometimes a chorus was left out, sometimes the solo part was made shorter. That was ok with me because the songs weren’t played too fast – a problem during the Roxy reunion tour in 2001. In contrast to that, ‚Tara’ was played in an extended version with Jacob Quistgaard on the acoustic guitar – some critics may call it kitschy but I enjoyed it very much.

And then Mr. Bryan Ferry, the ‚King Of Cool’: He looked very well and his voice was in good shape even when he sang without his (excellent) background choir. Bryan’s stage presence and his charisma were stunning – once again I realized how his songs had influenced me over the past 43 years. He’ll never be a communicator or a dancer, his concerts are always short and precise but he’s got a unique voice, musical style and a sense of fine arts. Bryan Ferry’s not everybody’s darling – like him or not. My Roxymania came out of the blue but it was no passing craze. More than this there will be nothing ...

PS: During the last third of the show the audience danced in front of the stage (‚Love Is The Drug’, ‚Virginia Plain’ and ‚Editions Of You’). The crowd then applauded to get a third encore but I think Bryan rather saved his voice instead of giving in.

Spot on, pianoman! This may easily answer any question of what`s the thing about Bryan. -Nicht für alle!
