In response to JO'B's lengthy contribution, I agree entirely.
I don't get the obsession some seem to have with unreleased material such as the 'Horoscope sessions'. I regard myself as a devout fan (with his frustrations at times!) but am only vaguely familiar with the material that has found its way online. To me, if BF (or his label) wasn't happy enough to release this at the time, then I'm content enough to wait until he is. I'd rather be patient and hear what he wants me to hear - slowly a good deal of that unreleased work has been forming part of his releases in recent years (apart from anything else, much of the material online is clearly unfinished).
So I look forward to 'Avonmore' enormously. From what I've heard it sounds like an interesting collection. Like you John, the magic of getting my hands on this on the day of release is as exciting as ever it was.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I think I'm right in saying that none of us should have heard any of the so called Horoscope tunes and were only outed by surreptitious means if memory serves me? Then this would be all completely new to all of us?

I think I'm right in saying 'you're right in saying' Gary.

Great post John, I fullheartedly agree. I especially like the Christmas gift analogy.

Just one stupid question: didn't you write on your website that Psalm was the first song BF ever wrote?

You are right LD, my mistake

Really looking forward to the new album - love 'Loop De Li' having listened to it a number of times already. It's got a much better feel to it than the 'Your Love Has Died' demo from the Horoscope sessions - tempo is a lot better and it feels like there's a lot more going on. Johnny and Mary is a great track but it would have been nice to have a Bryan only version on this album perhaps stripped down with just him and piano.

One thing I'm a little disappointed about is the lack of a 'deluxe edition'. It would have been great to have a few bonus tracks on there (his version of Phyllis Nelson Move Closer which was pulled from the Olympia release) and another 'making of' DVD and 'Remixes' album would have been nice. I suppose that with the overall cost of Olympia being quite high they have decided just to have standard releases with this album - some official bonus downloads from his website would be nice though!

I'm going to stop listening to any further snippets between now and release as the first thing I like to do with any new Ferry album is stick the headphones on and listen intently for the first couple of plays! Not sure about everyone else but I've ordered direct from BF.com as you get a free download of the album which will come in handy for the car. Ordered both the CD and vinyl edition (which I'm sure will be a delight to listen to!)

This post could easily have been a thread of it`s own, called "The Olympia LP we didn`t get (Avonmore related)". The fact is that a vinyl issue including the bonus tracks was announced, but never saw the light of day.

This time both a 1LP and 2LP edition are announced. If you search for Avonmore on vinyl at amazon.com, you`ll see the 1LP edition. If you search at amazon.co.uk, you`ll see the 2LP edition AND the 1LP edition, but the latter is marked "out of stock". I guess everyone would prefer the 1LP edition, so BEWARE!

Good Evening to all Fellow Roxyologists and Ferryistas. It's Lori. I want to share some thoughts of My own, Here. This conversation/discussion thread about Bryan Ferry's Up-Coming New Album "Avonmore " has Me intriqued. At the risk of being thrown Out of The Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry Sand-Box on Grounds of commtting High Crimes, I fell that I have to make references to One of the most HATED and DERIDED bands in Music History. Yes i am referring to Duran Duran A Band that has had A strong Mental and Emotional hold on Me for A Life-Time.Duran Duran's last Album, " All You Need is Now " was a Album that harkened back to the Band's very Roots. The Songs on that Album had A " Genesis " if You will that dated back to " Rio" In fact the Songs on " All You Need Is Now" showcased Sequel Songs to at least 4 Songs on " Rio" " Leave A Light On" was a direct Sequel to " Save A Prayer." " Mediterrania" was a direct Sequel to "Rio" although a much slower pace. The ULTIMATE Song on "All You Need Is Now " was " THE MAN WHO STOLE A LEOPARD " A gorgeous Gem of a Materpiece that was A direct Sequel to " The Chauffer ." How does this relate to Bryan Ferry's new Album " Avonmore" ? You may all ask, well it is just that Bryan Ferry is not the only Musician Artist Out there Who takes may Years to bring Songs to fruition.I bet the great majority of Veteran Artists take many Years to perfect Their material. So what if some Songs are Re-Made/Re-Modeled in ensuing Years for much later Albums in their Careers? maybe not all Songs are ready for A particular Album that is ever being worked on at any given time. Some Songs may be saved for the Future. Or just put in the trash altogether because they were just NOT ever going to be GOOD No matter what is done with them. The prospect of Bryan Ferry continuing His amazing and prolific Career well into His 70"s with new material is almost Un-Heard of. He is driven beyond "Reason Or Rhyme " to push Him-Self to the limit of His very essence. I am so looking forward to "Avonmore" Like A Kid on Christmas Morning or A Kid in A Candy Store. Bryan's is a Once-In-A Lifetime Artist. One Who has very few rivals in the scope of various Musicians and Producers He has worked with over the course of His entire 40-Plus Year Career with or without Roxy Music.
I will understand if may of You Fans Here will not be pleased or happy with My comparisons between Duran Duran and Bryan Ferry. It is just that this was the easiest for Me to do. Plus it was A comparison between 2 Artists that I really admire and appreciate the most.
My Musical tastes are very Eclectic and Eccentric as Bryan Him-Self is!
I will accept any and all Prison Time handed Out to Me from These hallowed Cyber-Halls Of Justice for this Felony offence.
My sincere regrets. Lori.

Don't beat yourself up over it Lori, we all have our weaknesses ;) (and to be fair, DD's 'Ordinary World' is rather marvelous).
A band so heavily influenced by RM can't be all bad, can it?

Hi John,
thank you for taking the time to explain things to me so thoroughly. I now have a better understanding of exactly what's what and how these things become intertwined and corrupted! (is it OK to use that word?) :o
Thanks again.
