Sorry if this has been posted already. There was some lyrical waxings about 10" vinyl a few weeks ago but seems it's actually available for those with some very deep pockets. http://www.vfeditions.com/product/view/73Bet they don't play at 78rpm though.

That would be me. I leaped on the chance to have this. It is truly an edition of art. It was a bit cheaper than the posted price when I committed. I guess I won't have to scrounge for something that plays 78's though. I bought a Crosley retro suitcase USB turntable radio player a few years ago to transfer what remaining records I had that weren't out digitally, so I guess I could use that to play them. I didn't see anything about a free download with purchase so that could be why it was cheaper. It almost seems to me like the purpose of this project was to make this folio. I adore this period of music and the cuts I had heard did not disappoint so I went ahead a got myself an early Xmas present. Now that I've heard it all I like them all and am totally surprised at how well some of the cuts like Do The Strand and I Thought work with this treatment. My two faves are The Only Face and This Island Earth.

Fellow Ferryistas, I've been playing this album incessantly and simply can't get it out of my head. Haunting, melancholic or fun are key descriptors, depending on the song. It would make a fabulous movie soundtrack. I'm currently reading "Mission To Paris" by Alan Furst (he writes amazing novels often set in '30s Paris) and every time I turn a page I hear this fabulous Jazz Trombone playing - if they ever film the book, TJA is the oven ready music. Simply brilliant! "Just Like You," "My Only Face," "Reason Or Rhyme" and "Avalon" are my absolute favourites but really there isn't a bad track on it and I do hope TBFJO finds a way to showcase this. As I've said before, Ronnie Scott's would be perfect. I love it to bits. Bravo monsieur Ferry and please continue your investigations! Regards, Windswept

I've had quite a few listens now and my take on it is:
It’s definitely a leftfield project and I would suggest one that he has undertaken because he wanted to rather than an attempt to court sales by going down the route of more albums of standards or obvious style re-recording of classic material - which he could have done with ATGB2.
I can imagine many fans hating it as it is about as far from classic Ferry/Roxy as it is possible to get and I guess it will be more appreciated by a 20s jazz aficionado (how many of these are there?) rather than a typical Roxy fan.
I've quite enjoyed listening to it and think the slower tracks are generally the ones that work best, in particular Reason or Rhyme and This Island Earth. The more up tempo tracks although amusing are not quite as intriguing and occasionally verge into the Ukulele Orchestra of GB territory!
I have a small cafe bar and the album fits in well as background music for the (hopefully) sophisticated lunch customer and this is where it will probably get most if it's future plays from my ipod.
The other thing that springs to mind is that listening to Reason or Rhyme and The Only Face makes me realise that Bryan is still capable of writing beautifully simplistic and memorable melodies, I just wish they weren’t always buried between layers and layers of sheen!

Sorry guys for not conforming but it is awful. By far the worst thing he has done. Not for me.

Jerry you don't need to conform, it's just your opinion and I am sure that is respected. There are things BF has done in the past that I don't like too and I am sure that's the same for all of us. Thanks John. I sometimes think some on here feel obliged to say everything he does is brilliant. A lot has been right enough!!! Maybe it is solely down to the fact that I have never liked jazz.

For me it`s a Colin Good album. I will never buy it.
He used Bryans name and work to represent himself.
On the one side Bryan said : I have a controlling instinct , sometimes being in a band isn`t the best place for me - at the other side he puts all his material available to Colin Good for making that Jazz album. Is that a controlling instinct ?
For me C.G. has taken a too large place in Bryans work and future, maybe his part should be scrutinized extent to which he is privy to the fact that we never see and hear the 9th Roxy album ???

I think love or empathy with Jazz is ultimately the deciding factor albeit the slower "noir" tracks may win over a larger audience in time. Happily, I love the stuff but can fully understand if it's not everybody's cup of tea. Regards, Windswept
