Hey, I guess that is better than some of his peers (BTW whatever happen to Phil M as a recording artist????) but it is not exactly amazing...Don't give up hope just yet, DCJ... When Phil & Andy played at the Not-So-Silent-Movies event in London just over a year ago, Phil told me that he was working on a new album (either he or someone else also mentioned further work with David Gilmour, I'm fairly sure). Sure, these albums (like BF's) seem a long time in the making, but I'm sure our patience will be rewarded.

Sorry. I couldn't help it...
Yes BF is active and has toured much more than we might expect from a 69 year old former Glamster who first made the Big Time in the Summer of '72. For this I salute him!
But let's not go overboard in terms of his recent career as a recording artist of original material. Since Frantic was released in 2002 (12 years ago if my math is correct) he has released exactly one album/cd featuring original material. One. And even that drew upon some of his archives dating back to the 1990s.

As I said the glass is half full. Could be worse. Could be better. Mes Amis, Aside from this bizarre Kool-Aid stuff that DJC seems intent on getting us to quaff instead of a good English Hendricks & Tonic, the main issue appears to be the what constitutes new. Since 'Frantic' we have had 'Dylanesque', 'The Jazz Age' and 'Olympia' — all to my mind offer innovations and were 'new' in their own way and personally I would much rather our hero put out peerless stuff like his take on 'Gates Of Eden' and keep his own compositions until he is completely happy with them. Windswept has said it before and he will say it again, for a songsmith of any age to come up with a tune like 'Reason or Rhyme' is an achievement to be celebrated. It's a long time since Paul McCartney wrote 'Yesterday' and in WNSHO the former is the equal of the latter nest-ce pas? a bien tôt, Windswept

It should be regarded as a criminial act if we don`t get a dvd/cd from the BFO tour. And then another one from the Dublin concerts, please! When it comes to a studio album, what can we do else than wait patiently? Still it`s nice to know that it is in the making.

Dear VRM fellows, remember that Bryan always complained about something like a writer's block. In the beginning he was an ingenious songwriter and lyricist. Think of "Bitters End", "In Every Dream Home A Heartache" and many others. Even his underrated album "In Your Mind" shows his sense for inventing tricky melodies ("All Night Operator"). Ever since then words and chords grew a bit more simple as the sound grew more complicated. But I think that's the way the cookie crumbles (to put it with J. D. Salinger). As Monsieur Windswept2 remarked: "Yesterday" was an early Beatles song, not a late PMcC track. Well, I respected "Frantic" and loved "Olympia". As Oberon puts it: "What can we do else than wait patiently ?" A new Bryan Ferry album (especially with a lot of his own material) is something like Christmas. Therefore he has got 5 more months to finish his new masterpiece. While we are waiting (more or less) patiently Bye, - piano man - PS: Will he ever complete "Love War" ... ?

I used to think that Bryan's early lyrics were wonderful, and the latter stuff a bit...erm, whatever. Now I think differently. I've realised just how wonderful the late Roxy lyrics were (long before more than this came to life in the new arrangement) too. Then Alphaville (bootleg) happened. Packed full of great lyrics. Some of his best. Since then we have material like ROR and Tender is the Night. Now, I feel that Bryan has always remained a great lyricist...it's just I've begun to appreciate the canon of work more, perhaps because of my own maturing.

I am trying to hold back on the Kool-Aid references, but I make no guarantees on complete abstinence, especially when my radar picks up signs of excessive Ferry Worship.
On that topic, I love the machine translation of the most recently posted Spanish interview, which asks:
"Ferry-Lord, what motivates you as an artist at this point?"
How wonderful. Ferry-Lord. It sounds like he's in charge of his own Death Star or something...
Also the article provides a revealing take on BF's bizarre relationship with his (relatively) recent recording work with Roxy:
Q: -When Roxy Music performed at the Sonar festival in 2010, his partner Phil Manzanera said he had new songs from the band. Do get to hear?
BF: -The tour was good, we got together in the studio, then I do not know what happened ... Working with people that you know of is always fun, there is some chemical that is not lost. But I did not want to spend years studying competing to see who was the leader. I guess I lost interest and focused again on mine. Yes, that's what happened.
Hmmm. What exactly happened? Hard to say, except that Ferry-Lord apparently wants to be the leader and that just doesn't work when it comes to a collaborative enterprise like Roxy Music. Sigh. So that's why we must/should be happy with Roxy Lite. With Roxy Lite the leader is clear and unequivocal.

Well spotted DCJ. Ferry-Lord. Excellent. By coincidence a wonderful conflation of two fascinating characters with many similarities: Bryan and the legendary Jack Lord. I'm off now to watch some more Hawaii Five O Classic on Amazon Instant.

Almost a laugh out loud moment: Quote: signs of excessive Ferry Worship.... ....in a fan forum of all places. Remain vigilant at all times - you never know when it will rear its ugly head again.

[quote="Oberon"]It should be regarded as a criminial act if we don`t get a dvd/cd from the BFO tour. And then another one from the Dublin concerts, please! C'est vrai Oberon, c'est vrai! We have to find a way of influencing team Ferry over this. The fact that the 'Tollwood' broadcast exists shows that there is great material from AEWBF in the can. It's a different set list/running order to the UK tour but that's fine, particularly as it includes a great interpretation of 'Move On UP'. As for BFWS. I'm no expert on what to look for when a concert is being recorded but I doubt that Dublin was taped. I hope I'm wrong because to say it was stunning is the understatement of the decade. A dream would be for him to repeat BFWS at the Vienna State Opera House and go for a DVD/CD recording. I would sell all of Madame W's handbags to pay for the pilgrimage for that one! His last DVD release, 'Nuits de Fourviere' was a great performance but not in WNSHO in the same league as AEWBF or BFWS. Windswept's favourite DVD thus far is 'Live In Paris at The Grand Rex' from the '02 ATGB tour. It's simply amazing and is played every year in the Windswept household — on Christmas Day - directly after the Queen's speech! a bien tôt, Windswept

"Ferry-Lord" is great, really. Reminds me of the story about the tribe in the Congo. I really envy those guys because apparently he uses to visit them in an invisible airplane at night. And whatever it is they're smoking must be good stuff, too.
