Forgive me when I barge in, Richard, but I don't think this forum is part of the official site, as far as I know it's run by a fan, who also occasionally happens to work for Bryan Ferry as an archivist (or so....?). But I agree with you, using the term "plagiarism" is a bit harsh and not really polite.

One assumes 'team BF' doesn't check in here very often. UKRichard, I would agree with your comments regarding the "truth" statement and it is down to individual opinion which there is a wide range of here at this forum. I would not assume though that "Team BF" do not check in here very often. I would be very surprised if they did not look in here from time to time to gauge the opinions of the fan base. I would imagine Bryan would be quite hurt and saddened to see his name connected to "plagiarism" of another artist in such a way, in my honest opinion of course.

You are correct LD, this site is indeed organised and run by a fan but it is the only forum which Bryan Ferry.com provide a direct link to from the official website which could be seen as an endorsement or approval in some way which is perhaps what UKRichard has in mind.

When did we begin to avoid BF being hurt? Is "plagiarism" so much worse than all the other stuff being expressed at this site? When I hear a some tones in one song that are similar to the tones in another song, plus an alluring piano bit that makes me think of the piano in the other song, I`ve gathrered that this is enough to call it plagiarism. I can hear the similarities in my head. Bill Fay uses more words and sings in 3/4, but a whistler wouldn`t care about such technical details.

Roxy and LD - Thanks - I am aware this is a fan site but, as pointed out, the forum does have a direct link to it from BF.com, so my comment about them checking in was designed to be somewhat ironic - i.e. eventually this will come to someone's attention and the fact plagiarism is being bandied about on a site BF.com appears to endorse will surely ring alarm bells?
Le freak - I agree that some healthy debate is good and often people aren't exactly shy with their criticisms - there's nothing at all wrong with that - but this is going a bit beyond that IMO. I'm no lawyer but it seems to be straying into the libellous.

Plagiarism is the "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original workIm my opinion Bryan Ferry would not indulge.

I think this discussion is getting a little bit absurd now. Being a musician myself I cannot find any significant similarities between 'Driving Me Wild' and Bill Fay's psychedelic waltz except from the artists' initials B & F. Sorry.

I agree with Roxy and Pianoman.
Besides, in my understanding the word "plagiarism" doesn't simply mean that two contents are similar or identical (which can also happen coincidentally), it also implies intention. That's what the "stealing" and "appropriation" part of the definition points to. I'm with Roxy here, I really can't imagine Bryan Ferry would do that.

Creating a dangeours thread was the least thing I wanted. Sure a similarity can happen coincidentally. I wouldn`t conclude in any matter of intention.
