Ok then, can't remember the date, but it must have been late spring 1972.
I'm up late not studying for my GCSE O levels, let's face it, I knew I was only going to pass Art and Geography, maybe biology.
I guess this story is the same for most Roxy fans of my age (not the exams).
The Old Grey Whistle Test is why I've neglected exam revision. My little 15 year old heart had been broken too.
Ah well.
This band get introduced, quietly. Unlike the denim clad hairy biker bands that normally appeared, there's a glitter ball and this weird oboe and space age soundscape, then this bloody Dracula bloke grimacing and singing in a strange unique fashion, and a bloke with fly eye goggles, and this twiddle fiddly electronic boffin, and the singers slicked hair!!!!!
AND THE MUSIC!!!!!
It was like a lightning bolt in my brain.
My broken heart was mended.
My wardrobe had to change. I wanted to be the next member of Roxy.
I think when the song ended I was standing in front of the tv, hypnotized.
At school the following day, most watched the whistle test, only 2 out of 20 thought Roxy were ok, but that's what you got from what were mainly bloody jethro tull and Yes hobbits.
