I'm not happy with the situation, either. I hope, the conflict can be dissolved. There is, however, a possibility that there's a grain of truth in both accounts. Maybe BF's team didn't send the music sheets to Leipzig because they saw that the second show didn't sell as good as expected and for that reason they didn't assume the concert would take place anyway. But that is of course nothing but speculation. Anyway, BF has played with orchestras before and I just cannot imagine that he and his team are too disorganised to put the sheets into an envelope and put a stamp and an address on it (or send the PDFs by email).

Mes Amis, Fellow Philanderers, Debauched Dilettantes & Elegantly Ageing Hipsters, Il faut être cool. Who knows the reality surrounding the great mystery of the disappearing Leipzig gigs? Doubtless there will continue to be unofficial investigations but now we must look forward and Windswept's excitement is starting to build in anticipation of the Dublin fandango on June 19th. Let's hope that all is well and that Monsieur Good and the BFO are called upon! Doubtless our hero will be preparing his wardrobe for the evening as the LVMH number has now toured the world. For his part, Windswept's butler continues to make proposals for evening attire. Thus far we've rejected the gaucho and Gi look in favour of a Rubinacci summer jacket but things could change. Decisions, decisions …… a bien tôt, Windswept.

Very good statements by UK Richard and Lonely Dreamer to ease the discussion. I am really impressed about the careful handling of this affair in V!RM.com.
Whoever is to blame now - I had certainly preferred to see Bryan Ferry in German newspapers and TV channels - after some successful events in Leipzig - to tell my fellow countrymen that this unique artist is still alive and kickin'. But as we all know - a bright chance has passed ...
I don't like our hero to make bad headlines neither in Germany nor elsewhere. But I am still proud of being a Roxy/Ferry fan. IMO J.O'B. is the last one to blame for the inconveniences of Leipzig ticket owners.
Sorry for steve, Uwe and all those members of V!RM.com that have lost money - I hope the future will heal these wounds and tell you that Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music fandom is worth to be part of your lives!

I feel badly for people who bought tickets and then got word (very late in the game) that the concert was cancelled.
Many people on this board have been disappointed by BF at some point when a concert got cancelled at the last minute (it happened to me during the Frantic tour in 2002) and the explanations seemed less than satisfying.
The thing that is noteworthy about the Leipzig cancellations is that the concerts were billed as something bigger than a traditional concert (a "Life in Voice) or some such). Thus the cancellation seems like more of an embarrassment for BF than a typical tour date.
I wouldn't anticipate that BF's management will offer any fulsome explanation for why the gigs got cancelled. That is simply not their style. Life moves on and explanations only serve to keep the pot stirring. It's best to stay quiet and let the storm subside as quickly as possible.
If the Dublin gig is a success and the other summer gigs come off as planned then this will soon be forgotten. Unless, of course, you were one of the people who bought tix for Leipzig and you feel burned... I must admit I still feel burned by the Frantic tour cancellation I experienced. 12 years on and I still remember...

From Leipzig with Love.....
Well, we and many others were there..... a couple from Moscow, and about 80 fans who turned up to be turned away in tearful disappointment. Many dressed up for the occasion (wow!), and who obviously did not know of the cancellation.
It was not possible to cancel hotel bookings - due to a near full capacity of bookings due to other events taking place in the City over Whitsun. And from what I could gather, flight tickets and train tickets were also not refundable. No insurance for this event of affairs unfortuneately. But it's not about money, the disappointment of the concert being cancelled is a hard one to take.
Gewandhaus opened the doors for an hour, and two smart officers politely gave a brief explanation and handed out a copy of the statement, which we read in Steve's mail last thursday (from Dr Christian Seyfert LL.M. (USA)).... so, nothing new there to report except the gossip and theories amongst us. The only winners appear to be the owners of the Gewandhaus who had leased the facilities for the two-day event... probably also BF Management, who may have concentrated on other business priorities and took this minor collateral damage of fans disappointment in their stride... yes, it will soon be forgotton.
A couple of mails sent last saturday seem to have been deleted here, that's ok, no hard feelings...BUT, it would be a delight if the BFM Team would step out of their shadow and issue a statement.
Not seeing Bryan was an incredible disappointment.... a tough one to take, but we did mingle in the Stadtfest and moved in with the Gothic Ravers, also there for the weekend. Strange clash of fashion Roxy vs. Gothic by the way....
Thats it, have a great week, life moves on.. roll on Hamburg, Hannover and Bielefeld...

I have had around 5 cancelled Bryan Ferry concerts over the past few years I understand how disappointing that can be especially when there is travel and hotels are booked. One year we planned a summer holiday around the "Route of Kings" Hyde Park concerts in London only to have them cancelled the week before due to "promoter" problems. These things happen. I am surprised that the Gewandhaus did not contact patrons to inform them the show was cancelled It must have been quite a shock to have turned up to a cancelled show

What StephenPep describes reminds me of an absurdist theatre - "Waiting For Bryan" instead of "Waiting For Godot" . But there was indeed hardly any news about the cancellation in media like online newspapers etc. I discovered only a few lines on the web site of a local radio station from Leipzig ...

I hope to get my money back from Eventim, the ticket company. But: My weekend in Leipzig was great - also without the BF concert. So at this very moment i look at it as a nice trip to beautiful city. (it was damn hot!). The concert would have been the icing on the cake, indeed.

StephenPep wrote: A couple of mails sent last saturday seem to have been deleted here Hello Stephen, not sure what you're referring to, I didn't notice anything about deleted posts or mails, but just to avoid a misunderstanding I'd like to explain that I have deleted a paragraph of my own scribble here: http://www.vivaroxymusic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=11002#p11002maybe that gave you (or somebody else) the wrong impression. The reason for this act of self-censorship was that looking back I thought what I had written was speculative and on the verge of gossip, and at best it wouldn't be good for anything. I try to keep the things I post on the internet in accordance with a certain ethical standard, so I decided to delete that part of my post. John had absolutely nothing to do with that. In the future, when I decide it's better to delete some of the nonsense I wrote, I will add a short explanation to avoid misunderstandings. LD
