That's a good question. Boys and Girls had been massive , with Slave to Love a huge hit worldwide. I think The Right Stuff still has a lot going for it , and had at the time, Marr involved, Madonna's producer Patrick Leonard up there , too. Great video production. Yet it wasn't a big hit and Bete Noire, to my mind a better album that Boys and Girls, also just didn't achieve the same commercial heights as its predecessor.

I think the fact that Bete Noir wasn't a big hit was a surprise to the record company as well. Boys & Girls has very likely sold over 500,000 copies in the UK & I have seen estimated UK sales for the 80s alone of over 500,000 for Flesh & Blood, Avalon, Street Life - 20 Great Hits & The Ultimate Collection. The Right Stuff struggled to #37 & Bete Noir #9, if I remember correctly. Bete Noir was released on the 2 November & was awarded a gold disc for shipments to retailers, (not sales over the counter) of 100,000+ two days later on the 4th. I did notice in my local WH Smith store sometime after it's release that there were several copies of the Bete Noir CD in the bargain racks. So, it does look like sales were expexted to be much higher than materialised.

The Right Stuff is one of my favourite singles as it had a brilliant bass line and that`s where the problem lied as folk listening to it on a cheap car radio would not get that bass pumping out and missing out on the full effect , but there again i would have opted for Kiss and Tell as the first single from the album

Listening several times to 'Loop De Li' on German radio SWR1 I noticed that it has one more chorus after the instrumental part - compared to my download track. Same thing with the Jools Holland live performance. So there must be a special single version. But I can't find it anywhere in the web. Even iTunes doesn't offer it. Can anybody help?

There are a couple of Loop De Li remixes on Souncloud by Leo Zero which appear to be official. He also did Alphaville remix. These mixes really bring out Nile Rodgers guitar. Loving the original (Avonmore version) loads but this is a different groove.

Happy Hedonists, A big thank you to Topiary & Lonely Dreamer for posting these re-mix versions. Normally Windswept does not approve of the Ibizarization of things but in this particular instance he finds it to be really quite good - more like a jazz mix really. W2 doesn't know who this Monsieur Zero is but perhaps at his age he's not supposed to! a bien tot, W2
