Windswept, It tickles me to think of the lovely Amanda carrying out these domestic duties, but I am sure that you are right about the fault lying with his tailor. That said, I would have thought that Bryan might have had access to a mirror at some point in the process.

Other than their length, the trousers look to be very nicely cut, with a slim profile around the seat gently tapering from the thigh to the ankle. Quite a la mode, I believe. However, the narrower the ankle then the gentler the break (and therefore the shorter the length) is the golden rule that Bryan broke here. If I was being really fussy, then I would say that Bryan's jacket seemed too full for his trousers. Together they do not deliver a particularly flattering silhouette. However, I guess that as he is closer to 70 than 60 then his trunk is not as lithe as it once was, which presents his tailor with a bit of a challenge as Bryan doubtless wants to maintain a degree of modernity in his stage styling, at least.

On the more substantive point, I think your suggestion for a set of RM classics performed by the ATGB band is inspired. The ATGB band was a stand out in terms of musicality and finesse and I fully understand why you nominated them as the best live line up over the years - although my preference is at the other end of the spectrum as I like a bit of rough. Bryan's voice is now particularly suited to deliver both the whimsical and the gentle characterful vocal styles that so suit these '30s arrangements - so this would be a real treat.

Let's hope that somebody picks up on this in the BF camp.

Dear Avondale,
You have the eye of a fine sartorialist and you are quite right about the overall proportions of The Great One's Titanic ensemble.
It could well be the result of an excessive Savile Row fixation and or freebees from Anderson & Sheppard.
Personally, every time I've ventured down the Row, it's always resulted in a calamitous fashion and finance hiatus.
Indeed, when I get the stuff home, not only does it fail to make me look like any of my heroes, it normally results in the good Madame Windswept asking me if I'm having a giraffe!
Anyway to the even more important business of music, I'm getting more excited by the second at the thought of the ATGB touring band regrouping and giving the art deco treatment to some Roxy/BF classics - 2HB, Tokyo Joe and Windswept would be prime candidates and Tender Is The Night and Reason Or Rhyme are oven ready.
Perhaps we should start a thread asking for submissions? Although, after the failure of my concept album I am a little fatigued and would prefer it if another Ferryista could pilot this one.
Regards, Windswept

Dear Windswept, you are being too hard on yourself. The fantasy album thread was far from being a failure. I thought it was pretty successful, actually, and it certainly helped to keep discussions alive when not much else was happening on the forum.

Sure, fantasy album chat does not appeal to all of the group but it did engage some of us in some pretty lively dialogue, and it spawned a number of interesting sub-discussions.

I also thought that you played the role of PM well, encouraging a wide range of diverse proposals, keeping the momentum going throughout, but never losing sight of your vision and making decisions accordingly.

I think we got to the point where you just had to name your producer and that, presumably would have been a done deal. I wasn't sure why you didn't do this - and few would surely have objected to Eno.

That said, I don't think that another fantasy album will work here. As we saw from before, there are only so many of us prepared to indulge in this type of thing, plus ATGB polarises the faithful like no other album or genre, to attract enough attention for this to work.

I think that BF could have a lot of fun playing around with some of his songs and fitting them to the '30s style - and it would not surprise me if some of the best results were produced from some of the most unlikely song choices. I have therefore no suggestions to make but would definitely find it much more enchanting if Bryan restricted his choices purely to selections from the RM portfolio.

Complete with the famous "bug eye" glasses, I hope; there is, after all, only one PM!

The proof was in the arrangement of chance meeting, turning it into a prime piece of 50's film noire soundtrack.

[quote="Windswept2"]"I think a more likely explanation is that somebody at "Anderson & Sheppard" needs a good slap around the head./quote]

the premier savile row bespoke house? surely not. there must be a truly huge backstory to trousergate yet to emerge.

great thread ;)

Dear RoxySiren,
You are so right. There is more to "Trousergate" than meets the eye.
We should launch a public enquiry and have it chaired by the President of The British Fashion Industry.
All parties could be called to give evidence under oath.
Anderson & Sheppard could give their side of things - were they miss instructed by their client who had a momentary lapse?
Did they employ a cutter who last tailored Gordon Brown and then mixed up the pants? Or have they just had a style bypass and are stuck in the era of the heavy break?
Mrs.Ferry could be called - did she fail to do the alterations herself?
Why did she not tip off our hero? Are her tailoring skills lacking?
Does she not consider it part of her role?
We have a lot to learn and no, we will not accept that the special advisor - Colin Good - is fired and that live continues as normal.
The Houses Of Roxy has to know the truth.
Regards, Windswept.

Bry once said that gent's clothing is "all in the details". Absolutely. Trousergate is a big story on many levels (i couldn't possible have said "breaking story").

Don't want to appear thick in public but, what's all this about trousers?
Sorry but...... :?:

Gary

It is a light-hearted swipe at Bryan's tailoring for the Titanic gig. Some of us thought that it wasn't up to his usual standard.

If you first look at the clip from the show that Bob kindly posted (i.e. post 3 of this string) and then fast forward to Windswept's 1st posting on page 3 of the string and follow the trail from there then all should become clear.
