Hmmm. So does the Midnight Train on Avonmore utilize the vocal track recorded 25 years ago?

I think so, DCJ. Considering his voice there will be "two Bryans" (or more) on this record ...

Hmmm. So how many of the Avonmore tracks have their origin in the Horoscope sessions?
Yes, this could be a "bipolar" album, with 1990 BF matched up against 2014 BF in terms of vocal styling...

It look`s as if he has as many leftovers from previous years to always push a new Roxy album into the future. The shelf never gets wiped clean!

Well, dear fellow roxologists, let's not criticize 'Avondale" to death before we have listened to the entire album instead of short snippets. It is not necessarily a bad thing to have some recently completed material from 'Horoscope', 'Alphaville' or whatever on Bryan Ferry's new cd/lp. IPMNSHO, even a 'younger' Ferry voice in contrast to what it sounds nowadays together on one album can be very exciting. I am really looking forward to listening to a promising new record of a singer whom I admire since my childhood days - the days when his 'Virginia plane' took off

At the risk of being perceived as "criticizing" Avonmore before I have heard it, it does appear that the "new" album is following in the tradition of Frantic and Olympia in that it draws tracks from many eras of BF recording and packages them together as current product. This is in distinct contrast to Mamouna, Bete Noire, Boys and Girls. etc...

"Avonmore" will arrive just in time for my birthday. I told my wife that the vinyl edition is on the top of my wish list. And, until then, I will refrain to listen to teasers. I`m sure the cover will change dramatically.

Well I never doubted for a moment that BF's latest work would materialise before the year was out! It's hard to form a judgement from 30 second snippets, all I would say is 'Loop De Li' sounds very 'NYC', 'Lost' very radio-friendly and 'Send in The Clowns' simply sublime. It's not exactly a favourite song of mine and quietly my initial reaction to hearing this was on the album was a slight cringe, fearing something akin to 'Amazing Grace' - I have fingers to spare when counting BF songs I don't like, but that's one of them. However, even after 30 seconds this sounds simply wonderful. Finally, delighted to see J&M in there too - it fully deserves a place in a mainstream BF release, rather than simply as a guest contribution elsewhere. Roll on release day.

Just listened to the clips on Amazon. Difficult to tell from just 30 seconds, but 'Soldier of Fortune' & a couple of other tracks stand out. All in all better than I expected. I'm still no fan of his obsession with the whispery, lost in the background vocal style tho.
