I think Bryan might just be the more modern version of Brian.

I have been studying my Irish roots lately (though I am very much a Scotsman) I intend to visit Dromoland Castle in Ireland when I am over at the Electric Picnic festival. This is the ancestral home of the O'Brien's. My father taught me about Brian Boru when I was a wee boy and have been reading a lot about him and the clan name lately. I noticed before that Bryan was a variant of the name.

It turns out that the Parochial House used in 'Father Ted' is only 15 miles form Dromoland so I inted to go there too when I am there.
