Surely the least mentioned album of everything Ferry on the credible forums since the advent of the internet. The first Ferry/Roxy album I ever owned, on cassette, and still have it. I listened to it tonight, in HD, and the track that stood out for me was "You Are My Sunshine". Great rendition that, I admit to, I had never appreciated as much, previously. Ferry's vocal sounds then, as it does today. In that, I mean weak, and soft, but beautiful and imposing. It could have been recorded last week, such is the vocal similarity.
Would be good to hear opinions of A.T.A.P.
Cheers.

GF: Over the past six months I've been driving around with a cassette of ATAP in my (almost) 13 year old Subaru and have listened to it dozens of times. I like the sound of TGPT's drums on the various tracks and his contribution to Smoke/Eyes is truly remarkable in its power and clever simplicity. The title track is also great, but I must admit that the one tune I feel compelled to fast forward through is You Are My Sunshine. Sigh. I guess that great minds don't always think alike. But to each his own, as everyone has a different take on what makes BF and his albums so interesting

It is an underrated album and like In Your Mind is one that Bryan Ferry does not seem overly enthused by now. But aside from Kari Ann Muller reclining by a gold disc, Another Time Another Place has the most iconic cover of any Roxy/Ferry album and is the one image with which anyone even vaguely familiar with his music can identify. As a piece of work, it may be a more complete album than These Foolish Things, although A Hard Rain and the title track are in my humble opinion better than anything on Another Time. The version of Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, though, is the best I've ever heard. At the Albert Hall in 1999, Ferry produced a rendition that tingled the spine.

Jesmond, we sing from the same hymn sheet. Out of all the times I have seen Roxy and Bryan. the one song that took me totally aback, when I wasn't looking, was Smoke Gets In Your Eyes on the A.T.G.B. tour. But then again, It may have been Prairie Rose and Pyjamarama. Roxy Music at the Koko.
Album covers? Surely Country Life will be the one most associated with Roxy more than any other athough my favourite album sleeve is Viva Roxy Music. That is an impartial choice. I agree about the A.T.A.P. cover though. Cheers.
Enjoying your input!

totally iconic cover imo burned into my retina/memory.
always loved the in crowd, smoke and title track. after a long time of not caring for the other tracks, i eventually came round to liking most of them, especially the more energised vocals of time slips, fingerpoppin (still dont like that arrangement tho).
anyway...let's get back to that cover. peter leay once pointed the cigarette out to me: so short, it reflects how many retakes/reshoots were needed in the photosession before the pose was "right"

The title track is one of my favourites from Bryan's self penned solo offerings. I have often thought that the album should have opened with the first section of this track (or maybe a different cut of it) as well as having the full version of the song to finish with
Isn't this the only original song that Bryan released solely under his own name while RM was an active recording act? I wonder why he chose to do this. Do we know if he wrote it specifically for the album - the title and opening section fit so well with the theme of the album that I suppose that is probably the case....or did he just not think it was suitable for Roxy to record?
PS - Gerry, I really like your description of Bryan's vocal style in your original posting.
