I've always liked the stylised Sprechgesang of the first 5 years. I also think his later style worked well in that later context. The atgb voice onwards has been mixed to my ears. It worked on atgb. It was great on alphaville. his live performances as roxy in this decade have been very powerful. but then dylanesque/frantic and she studio versions have been both sometimes very tender...but also quite weak imho

It's tough sometimes to see him now sing even though his smoothness will never fade but for his voice, I yearn for the past years when we were all young. I just feel lucky to have seen him perform live in my life.

My impression, and I don't do impressions, was that for the Dylan album he left his singing voice in his other suit.
I was disappointed when he did not tour the U.S. because the St. Lukes video showed he still could sing well. The live versions were better than the album, by far.

You are so right there Re/re. I was shocked by the weakness of Bryan's voice on some of the Dylanesque tracks. Seeing him on the tour proved that he still has a good voice in him.

The only thing I can put it down to is that the album was recorded very quickly (one week sticks in my mind) after the last Roxy tour in 2006.
