I like this album very much...

But hearing it again tonight make me wonder about the Ferry penned tilte track. I think it could have make into a great Roxy Music track. Imagine it on "Country Life" and on Roxy live shows...

Wouldn't it be great ?

Maybe they don't play that one because they seem to avoid doing the solo work as Roxy Music. I guess they don't want to be accused of Bryan Ferry using the band simply as a back-up band when they are touring as Roxy Music.

That said there are some great youtube videos of Roxy Music in 1976 at the Konserthaus, Stockholm doing amazing versions of solo hits "Hard Rain Gonna Fall" and "The In Crowd." Have you seen these? Here is "The In Crowd:"

I love how Ferry does the line "we have our own way of walking" with the special walk.

I don't know if he has ever performed the song Another Time, Another Place. It remains an obscure song, which is too bad because it's great and uplifting! The whole album is overlooked except for "The In Crowd" and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes." I love his versions of "It Ain't Me Babe," "Walk A Mile In My Shoes," and "Help Me Make It Through the Night."

I always loved the title track, "ATAP".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtLfh7Et ... =1&index=9

I knew there´d
be times like this
When I´d sit at
home and reminisce
Oh how one´s
memory slips...
So I close my book
And sighing, take a second look
Sure enough -
I´m quite
alone
Still, there no sound
So I spin-a-disc around and around
And slide the needle
in the groove...
Drive down any highway baby
But don´t bid me adieu
Through a sea of twisting byways
I´ll be trailing you
Eternity´ll
solve our problem
Take it as you may
And destiny will stand corrected
Should we connect some day
Another time - to spend
[ Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/yPx ]
Another place - to go
Another love to share with you
Deep emotion springs from this life
Wells up inside
Quick, pick me up and pour me over
The clouds crying by
Another time - to spend
Another place - to go
Another love this time
it´s true
Anyway you want me lover
Used to be your tune
I looked you up - you looked me over
My lucky strike won through
I was cut, dried and discarded
Just a rusty blade
But since I found my
four leaf clover
I´ve seen the light again
All the tears
In the world
Seem to fall from you
At their
Rainbow´s end
A halcyon day
Or two
How soon
We fool ourselves
How slow
We tread
Astral planes
Collide head on
And on and on we glide
As if forever

"Various other versions have been recorded including vocal arrangements featuring: Nat King Cole (on Just One of Those Things in 1957), Bing Crosby Billie Holiday, (with Teddy Wilson in 1936) Frankie Laine, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Aaron Neville, Frank Sinatra, (Point of No Return, 1961), Sammy Davis Jr, Bryan Ferry and Rod Stewart. Instrumental jazz arrangements of the song have been recorded by Stan Getz, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Thelonious Monk, Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker, Count Basie, Lester Young and numerous other artists.

The line 'The song that Crosby sings' features in some versions, yet Bing Crosby himself omitted these words in his 1955 recording.

Bryan Ferry covered the Dorothy Dickson version of the song for the title track of his first solo album These Foolish Things by Island Records in 1973

Paris Bennett covered the song on the fifth season of American Idol."

Another Time Another Place IS A GREAT SONG, indeed! :D
"Eternity´ll
solve our problem
Take it as you may
And destiny will stand corrected
Should we connect some day"

Those words are so comforting. It's a statement of faith.

I love his version of River of Salt, so sad so sweet. During the Dylanesque tour an interviewer called him "the king of covers."
(Ferry joked "King of Covers? Is that the title of the next album?")
I think that he is definitely the king of covers in that he is respectful of the source, but makes it his own song. Such a marvellous aching in his voice, which made Dylanesque a nice album. Hope there are a few cover versions on the new album, but some originals as well, which worked for "Bride Stripped Bare," and "Frantic." Maybe more Velvet Underground? He'd do a great version of "I'll Be Your Mirror."

Glad you mention 'River of Salt,' elshiva! It's one of my favorite BFcovers too! It's very soft and sad, and it's best proof that a song doesn't need to be long to impress. In once drove home, 1,5 hours driving, with a song of Herman van Veen (dutch singer/cabaretier) which only lasted 2,30 min. Just pushed on the repeat button each time! When I told my husband, he said : lucky you were alone in the car,... ha ha! :D

My mother had a great collection of songs from the forties and the fifties. She early introduced me to music of Peggy Lee , and also Sarah Vaughn, when I was a kid.

She also collected some Scott Walker singles. When friends of mine comes recommanding this "magnifying voice", I just whistle and hum..

You might like his voice..elegante. Bowie also covered this Brel-tune.

I agree. Underrated album. As is "In Your Mind" - which I never used to like but it's sort of grown on me over the years

"In Your Mind"

California was my first feeling when I bought it summer of 77.

and highway travelling in an open car... I cannot think of a more 'cruisin'-friendly' track than "This Is Tommorow".
