Post subject:  FERRYESQUE!

Elegantly Ageing Hipsters, Philosophical Philanderers & Debauched Dilettantes,
"Ferryesque" has long been an adjective in the Windswept household to describe good taste and is often used in place of the more banal "cool".
Something can therefore be "Ferryesque" without our being directly involved.
As this is the quiet season and Geordie's favourite son is hopefully "en repose",Windswept thought he would share his cocktail hour playlist in the hope that fellow haunters of this hallowed cyber hall might reciprocate.
This is what is on Windswept's digital turntable this week:
1) 'Goin' Back' by Dusty Springfield (the best ever version of this Goffin/King classic from the UK's greatest soul songstress).
2) 'Soldier On' by Richard Hawley (fabulous vocal and blistering guitar from the five star 'Truelove's Gutter').
3) 'Into My Arms' by Nick Cave (thoroughly haunting love song)
4) 'Metal Heart' (2008 version) by Cat Power. (fabulous vocals, piano
and guitar).
5) 'I Haven't Played This Song In Years' by Neil Diamond ( every now
and again, the sequinned crooner comes up with an absolute
classic. This is one).
6) 'Palaces Of Montezuma' by Grinderman (our hero has to interpret
this one. I'm sure Nick Cave wrote it for Roxy Music. Amazing lyrics; "The spinal cord of JFK wrapped in Marilyn Monroe's negligee - I give to you")
7) 'The Electrician' by The Walker Brothers (if this one doesn't raise
the hairs on your neck - check your pulse. Scott's baritone is one of the greatest voices in modern music).
8) 'Slave To Love' by Willy DeVille (as Mrs.W says -"you always find
a way of slipping our hero in" and she's right. I heard of Willy's
noir version via this hallowed cyber hall and I love it. Super dark. Gritty vocals and a great piano riff give this classic a different feel. Dare I say it, I prefer it to the original!)
9) 'Lived In Bars' by Cat Power (the title says it all - great song with
a fabulous New Orleans feel).
10)'Lady Eleanor' by Lindisfarne (great track from a great band but
their new drummer doesn't play on this one!)
Although the above is best listened to quaffing a large Talisker or a nice G&T. Windswept is quite sure it would sound good with any tipple of your choice (except Kool-Aid).
Anyway, hopefully all you learned Roxologists will find it an appropriately Ferryesque selection and now that Windswept's shown you his - he is hoping that you will show him yours!
a bien tôt,
Windswept
