Good Early Evening to all Fellow Roxyologists and Ferryistas! it is Lori! I just called Up My local Music and Record Store FYE ( For Your Entertainment ) to reserve My Copy of Avonmore! I should have it My eager and anxious hands on Saturday, the day after My Pay-Day! Yipee and Happy days for Me! I have now listened to this Al;bum a few Times On-Line. I must shout this from on High Yes Sire Ree Peeps Bryan Ferry is BACK! I really Love the following Songs on Avonmore:
1. Loop Di Li The opening sounds remind Me very much of His Cover of The Velvet Underground's " All Tomorrow's parties."
Sounds like he decided to spin it off of 'Your Love Has Died " from the aborted "Horoscope " Album. has echoes of " NYC " from " Mamouna " in it as well along with a some sounds and sprinkles of either " The Right Stuff " or " Kiss And Tell. "
2 Driving Me Wild A nice Up-Tempo Soft Rock Song. Has grand Rhythms and the harmonies and Melodies are sweet to get into! Plus it has its moments Where it really Rocks!
3 One Night Stand. Not much I can say about this One other than it is pure and classic Ferry. most of these Songs are all about Where Bryan is at the Present Time. A very much a Wounded Lover of A Man.
4. Soldier Of Fortune. This Song just about says it all A Man reeling from the Pain of yet another Divorce and desperately remorseful.
5 Lost A beautiful and haunting Love Song from A Mature Man that just makes A Woman lose Herself in Sonic Sound Scapes.
6. Send In The Clowns A hauntingly Beautiful Theatrical and Cinematic Cover of The Classic Steven Sondheim Broadway Song.
The way that the Classical/Orchestral Instruments make it soar with Emotion and depth takes You to " Another Time, Another Place " entirely. Takes One to a different World.
I Shudder to even THINK about what this would LOOK and SOUND like Live.
The Audience will be hypnotized and transfixed for sure!
7 Johnny and Mary I just Love ' The Chariots Of Fire " ambeiance Here Plus the Oceanic Sounds and the Sounds of the Helicopter or Air Plane at the End. Plus the passionate and the husky whispering touch.
8 The Title track of Avonmore What can I say? It has Lyrics of very Powerful Passion and Intensity Sexy, Sensual, Sensual and Down Right Sultry. Lyrics that One would NOT expect from A man of His Age.
Still very much Human and A Man.
Bryan's Lyrics continue to draw Me in and hold My attention.
Sincerly Yours to all Who post Here in These hallowed Cyber Halls Of Justice, Lori.

Well just got my copy - digital for now - of Avonmore.

I have not been a fan of Ferry's solo work post Avalon - simply because it all sounds the same.

But I will say that Avonmore is pretty decent and more cohesive than Olympia although I would guess that the credits point to a lot of this being started circa Olympia.

Avonmore - the title track - is the stand out for me and I also like SITC for my sins.

The biggest change is the energy in the music which has been a long time coming.
