Is it wrong to like some of these so much! I am really liking the official Bryan Ferry remixes such as Loop Di Li Zero Dub mix and Johnston Somerset's Driving me wild and Lost. Also found Zymal's More than This part 1 and 2 great easy listening. What do others think? Sorry if there has been a thread on this already

Great that you have discovered the remixes on Soundcloud, they are excellent and shouldn't be missed. Don't know why they haven't been made more available.
There have been a few threads on the remixes. Some comment that they are recovering from overkill of Olympia remixes, some avoiding them because they are free! Lost is genius by bringing in his tragic dear friend Isabella Blow.
The Avonmore remixes stand up well on their own and with the originals. Soundcloud is an easy way to hear official music from Mr Ferry. Ticket prices for live shows pay for it I guess.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but how are remixes put together? And is there a difference in official and unofficial in relation to what the remixer has access to. I have in mind whether any of the different layers that make up a song are used? I am probably not using the right terms but hope you get what I am driving at.

Hi Angel Eyes,
I'm with you, I absolutely love the Avonmore remixes. For the first time I even like the remixes better than the original album.
I don't know much about this either, but I think the difference between sampling and remixing a song is that in sampling somebody takes the original song, cuts out a piece that he likes and mixes it into his own music. I don't know if it's legally required to have the original artist's consent. When somebody does a remix of a song, he needs to have the recording material, that is each instrument and voice on its own track, so obviously it needs the original artist's consent and cooperation as he has to give out the material. The artist who does the remix then puts the pieces together anew, according to his own liking and possibly adds material of his own.
I remember there was a remix contest a couple of years ago where everybody could buy the original tracks of a song from itunes, I think it was one from the Olympia album, but I don't remember which one?
