How come this band can play (nearly all of ) 'Beauty Queen' but Roxy Music apparently couldn't play any of it in 2011 when allegedly Ferry's voice was stronger? How come this band is not considered Ferry Lite - by other Forum members - even though Guy and Cherise have been replaced by - to me at least - unknowns? (I can only conclude that Neil Hubbard has made the difference.) What's the point of having violinists if you don't play 'Out of the Blue' every evening? What happened to Rhianna Kenny at Sheffield (and other gigs?)? Does anyone proofread the tour brochure, eg saxaphone? |

What happened to Rhianna Kenny at Sheffield (and other gigs?)? Does anyone proofread the tour brochure, eg saxaphone? 2011 - no beauty queen. they still played a huge set with lots of hits and plenty of slightly more obscure tracks - you can't please all the people all the time... unknowns - cherisse was fairly unknown until BF. luke bullen played with joe strummer and KT tunstall...and anyway, just cos they're 'unknown' doesn't mean they aren't great. and they are great, cos i've seen them. violinists - out of the blue isn't exclusive. remember that the violin heavy 'bete noire' has been in the set every single night... rhianna - one presumes she had some prior commitments before confirming the tour. this is very common in the session world. obviously the same reason applies to lucy wilkins who has only done about half the shows. natalia bonner has replaced very ably when needed, one can only presume that BF felt fonzi & bobby were able to carry the show without a replacement. proof read - fair enough, that's lame. just because bf is doing what effectively amounts to a 50/50 roxy & bf show doesn't mean it needs shooting down. it's another top tour, sold out & great reviews. i suggest graham james could either enjoy the gig for what it is, or vote with his feet & watch top of the pops 2.... |

Sadly, after attending over 100 Roxy/Ferry gigs, I don't have rose-tinted spectacles! However, thank you for your input friend. ![]() |

GJ: I feel your anguish. Why-oh-why does BF want to avoid the real Roxy while simultaneously attempt to create a "new band" in its image? Sigh. Who knows why BF does what he does. I can only surmise that he feels a need to control as much as possible and with Roxy he necessarily has to share control with PM and AM. So why this compulsion for control. I don't know, but it has deep roots extending all the way back to the departure of Eno and his desire to establish himself as a solo artist. My sense is that the decision to resurrect Roxy in 1979 only came after the commercial failure of TBSB. And once he felt that Avalon had reestablished him as the Ultimate New Romantic, he struck out on his own again... Nope, I'm not going to parse through yet one more time what happened in 2010-11 when Roxy regrouped for its last series of concerts... Water over the dam and down to the sea... Never say never, but I believe BF when he says that Roxy will never play again. He's almost 70 years old. He has a band which serves his purposes and, from the responses offered by many on this forum, he is having a very successful tour. Everybody in the band knows that they are expendable (see ya CO! see ya Mr Jones!). It is well compensated Work-for-Hire. Sigh. Given enough time, BF's new band will likely resuscitate all the "lost" Roxy tracks a la Beauty Queen. But it just wouldn't be right if BF brought back Serenade without TGPT on drums... |

It's time to move on. Roxy split at the top and their reputation is intact. Let it go. |
