Been listening a lot more to Bete Noire. Really like this track and note its never been performed live. Would it suit his voice now or is it too melodic?

I always found it a bit , erm , weak - great backing vocals , though.
A re-visit in order .

I liked it when the album came out but it was very much of its time (late 80s) and the sound strikes me as a bit dated now. Plus as was remarked at the time it is very reminiscent of Madonna's "Live To Tell" which co-writer and Bete Noire co-producer Patrick Leonard had a hand in. So it doesn't seem to have that distinctive Ferry stamp on it that his best work does, it's more a case of Bryan singing on a Patrick Leonard track.

It's an album which would benefit from alternative production as it is very much of its time. Some great songs and it was fantastic to hear Bête Noire on the current tour.

I was never a fan of this song, I think as already stated here it might benifit from different production. I find the chorus very Eurovision song contestish (is that a word)

A piano/vocal version might sound great.

A filler. Very Euro song. Maybe that`s why Ann Laenen likes it. Post Avalon crap.

le freak;

Just 'cos you don't like the song, there's no need to be so nasty to Ann, or any Roxy/Ferry fans, you have a history of arrogant bile and it's pathetic.

Hmm. That was bad. I just wanted to be a bit sharp or edgy,
-interesting, even, -showing my memory of former site posters. Well, I apologize for being nasty. "history of arrogant bile", -I have to chew on that one. :shock:

Post Siren, Post Avalon etc

I have heard these expressions before but as far as I can see there is not a line where Ferry's best work ends.

Arguably the early period is his most prolific period and my favorite too, but that's only my personal opinion. This does not mean every note from the early period is good on the same token not everything after a certain point is bad either.

I really enjoy Bete Noir, it's quite experimental in the fact that Ferry co-wrote with and produced parts with Patrick Leonard. He has said he'd wished he had used Bob Clearmountain to mix it.
But I always felt the lead single was the wrong choice. Day For Night or The Name of The Game with a decent video might have changed it's place in the Ferry cannon.
Also was this the last album completely written, recorded and released with a 1-2 year period? Probably.
A 5.1 surround mix would be a thing of beauty.
