Quote: Beauty Queen has returned It did indeed! Great pleasure to hear it Good show all round, band were great. Bryan seemed to be having fun especially towards the end. The Bristol crowd were enthusiastic and were up, as usual on this tour, at Love is the Drug.

Yes not a bad show all round and it was great to hear some tunes live for the first time - particularly Beauty Queen and Stronger Through the Years - the hipster band changed arrangements up too - very impressed with Jorja and Quist - good to see Lucy back

-Hmm, interesting, and "approved", from my point of view. I`d guess he`d never dare to play that outside the aficionados.

a triumphant return to the UK stage..
the second time i'd seen the great man this year and i have to say i thought he was on better form at bristol than at cardiff in may.
my seat 'in the gods' wasn't exactly five star, but the show definitely was. voice on good form (can't be guaranteed these days - age catches up with all of us), but thought bryan was back to his charismatic best.
the show was noticeably fuller in energy than at cardiff (apologies, i'll be making comparisons throughout) and bryan spent far less time 'resting' by the piano. he seemed to be enjoying himself more than usual as the extended set will testify.
not surprisingly for a roxy connoisseur, the early stuff shone - if there is something, beauty queen and i'm a real stickler for stronger through the years - very loud, very dark, very rock and very very good!
otherwise, the bob dylan's dream/don't think twice/smoke gets in your eyes ensemble - although a very different pace - were stand-out for me. bryan's voice comes into its own and the distinct lack of backing singers is testament to the strength in which he still sings those numbers. they were almost moving in delivery.
jorja chalmers was, as ever, one of the stars of the show despite being heavily pregnant (one suspects we won't be seeing her again for a little while). jacob has grown well into the lead guitar role and the backing trio (inc the effervescent fonzi thornton!) seem to be having a whale of a time. i must confess to being slightly distracted at times by jorja and lucy wilkins who appear to have a great relationship - they were a real double act throughout and had really gotten into the spirit of the show.
struck me as i watched that bryan is, as has been written before, a true frontman and, as good as his band is, they would pale into insignificance if you were to take him out of the frame. he has charisma and leadership in abundance.
as for the venue - colston hall's looking tired (inside the auditorium at least) and a distinct lack of air conditioning nearly claimed a few through heat stroke. the ice cream post-judith owen went down a storm. nevertheless, sound was good and crowd was in reasonable form.
every time i go to a show (this from memory, was my 15th) i wonder if it may be my last... but on monday night's form, there is plenty left in the tank and, i mused, definitely one final hurrah with roxy should mr ferry choose to accept it.
be interesting to see down which path he chooses to walk next...
full marks, bryan - and thank you!

However, the song seems abbreviated. No singing after the speedy part.
