Its 5 years since Olympia was released (25 October 2010).

One of the most anticipated ( for me) Ferry albums, its release was marked by an extensive marketing campaign, in shop , on TV and on-line. There was even a front page on the Metro with the Kate Moss cover photos.

I was also about to be made redundant at the end of the month, but that October I met Ferry at the Selfridges event ( along with many others) , paid for a signed Olympia book ( yeah, the £50 one, a treasure) . That year Roxy Music had played at Lovebox , close to me in Victoria Park, and were later to embark on the For Your Pleasure tour.

So , significant life changes, but hey.... what a great album! I will give it, and its remixes, a spin tomorrow.

Tender is the Night. Superbly crafted and a great closer to the album, Ferry's voice sounds wounded and forlorn , and the minimalistic soundscape is a perfect backdrop to him.

I am so attracted to those very qualities in his voice and style. It's a strange thing to enjoy melancholy music. You would think most people listen to music to make them feel happier As you said, his voice sounds "Wounded, forlorn." Loneliness, loss. Forever the outsider looking in.

I'm always wondering what exactly it is that draws us all to this music. I mean he is really easy on the eyes but I'm talking about the people who are really interested in his writing and music style. All types of personalities, ages and backrounds. There is something so much more than mere entertainment in that. That kind of writing touches something within. Like enjoying a really great movie or novel, or looking at a favorite piece of artwork. I honestly couldn't say that about very many other modern songwriters
I love Reason or Rhyme and Song to the Siren. I also think that a great many people who love Bryan Ferrys' lyrics are true romantics
