Fanatical Ferryologists,
There were two pretty good documentaries on BBC4 last night entitled 'Better Than The Original - The Joy Of The Cover Version' & ' Ultimate Covers at The BBC'.
They were both good programs and, as you would expect, our hero featured in both. In 'Better Than..' he performed Dylan's 'If Not For You' and in 'Ultimate...' it was 'Hard Rain'.
Beyond that, the shows gave a good synopsis on what goes into a great cover and particularly interesting were the stories behind The Animals' 'Rising Sun' and The Moody Blues 'Go Now'.
Both shows are available on iplayer.
Salutations,
W2

Thank you Windswept2,

I don't know if this topic has been discussed a lot already but I would like to see everyones choice of a song "interpretation" (I think I read somewhere or heard in an interview that Mr Ferry doesn't like to call them "covers")

My personal choice would be "One More Kiss Dear"
From the Bladerunner soundtrack by Vangelis
Sung by Don Percival
Peter Skellern was the writer
You can watch it on Youtube

It is a beautiful song and I would absolutely love to hear his version

Hedonistic Hipsters,
IWNSHO, this is a topic that can't be discussed enough and Teresa's recommendation is completely inspired. W2 loves this song and thinks it would be a perfect choice for hero to interpret.
Whilst on the subject, W2's life long love of 'Carrickfergus' makes him wish that our hero would explore more from the traditional folk world.
A few years ago he did a couple of sea chanteys for a compilation album and Windswept thought they had charm - particularly 'The Cruel Ship's Captain'.
OK, they have a deliberately rough hewn to them but this in itself is part of their charm.
More than this, there rests W2's long standing desire to see The Bonny Lad turn his hand to Richard Thompson's fabulous 'For Shame Of Doing Wrong' (for arrangement clue see Sandy Denny's take).
If ever a song was created for Ferry this is it. That said, he probably doesn't take requests and has his own list.
Windswept poursuit ses rêves.
Salutations,
W2

Yes, I remember that, too. He said it's because he grew up in the countryside and there the word "to cover" could have an entirely different meaning...

Thank you Windswept2;
I want to see him do this song so badly maybe we could petition him ;)

It seriously has his name all over it!

Oh yes WS2
Romantic Irish, Welsh folk songs also have his name all over them
Wish he would take requests !! It might give him some fresh ideas

I read or heard the same interview Lonely Dreamer, about why he doesn't like to call them covers. I think he said he prefers to call them "ready mades".

If I remember correctly it had to do something with the stallion covering the mare or so...

Which song would you like him to interpret Lonely Dreamer? How about one of our Al Green faves?
