I like both. I've described Mamouna as the quintessential ( mature) Ferry album but In Your Mind has energy and a great swing and soul about it that doesn't often manifest itself in the later works.

I love all Ferry, but IYM is my least favourite, Tokyo Joe is the worst single, it's so cliched, I think Bryan was relying on a formulaic set of puns that just wasn't matched musically throughout the album.

Love me madly is the best track, one kiss is nice, rock of ages is the nearest to roxy with its intro.

Hello Fellow Ferryfans; :D

I agree with Dear Oberon and Windswept2:
Mamouna being one of Bryans' most personal collections..
It is Fabulous..

And Dear Rendezvous,
I do not care for IYM either, sorry Oberon,
Tokyo Joe is My Least Favourite Ferrysong
But This is Tomorrow is one of My Favourites...

So excited for my First live Ferry !!
August 4th at the Fabulous Fox...
3rd Row Center
Stay Well Dearest Bryan!

Hipsters,

You do get some great posts in this hallowed cyber hall:

W2 loves avalon_eyes one paragraph summation and agrees with him completely regarding the mood of IYM.
However, IWNSHO, 'Mamouna' was the continuation of the noir furrow that our hero had been ploughing since 'Avalon' and was indicative of the sort of album he would have made with Roxy had they continued - as was B&G and BN.
Whereas IYM was a product of a solo career that he was running in parallel with Roxy. Of course, it differed from his previous efforts because it was the first entirely composed by him.

[quote="rendezvous"]I love all Ferry, but IYM is my least favourite, Tokyo Joe is the worst single, it's so cliched, I think Bryan was relying on a formulaic set of puns that just wasn't matched musically throughout the album.

W2 smiled when he saw rendezvous' opinion of Tokyo Joe because at one time he felt exactly the same about that song but over the years he's changed his mind. There is a level of cliche and campness that if achieved crosses over into great taste plus it is so cinematic.

Another thing W2 loves about IYM is the cover art - cool when that adjective meant something. N'est-ce-pas?

Salutaions,
W2

I'm in the camp which has IYM as one of its favourite albums, with Mamouna much further down that list.

I'm on record elsewhere in the forum as viewing the Dublin With Strings shows as an opportunity missed, simply because there are so many Roxy & Ferry songs which would have worked so brilliantly with full orchestral backing.

High on that list would be just about the entire IYM album; it'll never happen, of course (BF's own opinion of IYM will ensure that), but we can dream...

Teresa,

Where did you get that Bryan at breakfast pic!!?

Looks like he makes good use of a Nutri blender, but the colour of those concoctions....yuk, ah well, we all need vitamins at our age.

Cheers.

I'm in agreement with you Smudge. For me on IYM Ferry was writing songs in the classic verse-chorus format, whereas by Mamouna he was essentially starting off with grooves and seeing where they went. Gemini Moon, Which Way to Turn, 39 Steps - all start off enormously promisingly (WWTT in particular is great) but many of them go on too long and drift on as though he doesn't know how to develop the song or finish it. Mamouna was the first Ferry album without a significant hit single, if I remember rightly, although the days of gracing the Hit Parade are now sadly behind him and those of his generation.

The entire In Your Mind album is classic , except perhaps Tokyo Joe.
Ferry knocks them out , one after another, from the opener, This is Tomorrow, all brass and brash, One Kiss , a real smooch, and All Night Operator and Love Me Madly Again, rockin'n'rollin.
And then there's side 2, apart from the aforementioned, from Party Doll and that segue from Rock of Ages to In Your Mind itself.
Hark the frozen chimes of winter. Pure class, indeed.

My sentiments exactly, other than Tokyo Joe, it's my favorite Ferry album, easily a Desert Island Disc for me.

There are so many great lines on that record, other than the beautiful line you quote.

My favorite, "Once Again/You're the song/I'm the one who turns the pages"
