Good version, right. Yess, good version. Average version, I`d say. Many of his songs demand sincere feelings, but how can he do these songs night after night without acting? Loss and regret, yes, we know, but we have seen this before. It`s a brand, but how about some rare or latest stuff? Many of the diehards are sick of this song and would gladly exchange it with anything from his reportoire. |

And many still love it. If he only played early Roxy for diehard fans he would play for ½ empty venues. I saw people leave concerts in 2001 when Roxy played the more advanced songs. To them is was noise. They loved the Avalonperiod. Don't reply,please. |

I wouldn't like to see a bad version if this is a good one! Sorry, it sounds thin and just doesn't flow like it used to. Too much lead guitar too... |

Youtube videos are tough to hold to a very high standard when it comes to audio quality, but I think BF's vocal is pretty good in this instance... Overall, JQ's guitar playing is not something I'm particularly enamored with. On this track he does a passable facsimile of Phil M, but one that lacks any soulful expression IMHO. It's too generic... But notice how the crowd gives a cheer for the Sax Solo! Nice! |

Maybe so, but that's not how I perceived it... But maybe I'm biased! With JQ solos seem to have a "brittle" quality. Or at least that's the word that comes to my mind. Others might disagree... |

Others might disagree... Frantic Ferryistas, W2 agrees with DCJ on this one - the guitar debate is interesting. Over the years our hero has had some great guitar line ups - Chris Spedding and Phil Manzanera played well together during the '01 Roxy reunion. Spending and the late great Mick Green (RIP) were phenomenal on the 'Frantic' tour and the guitar heavy 'Dylanesque' line up featuring Spedding, Oliver Thompson and Leo Abrahams was also excellent. No doubt all of our hero's musicians are technically excellent but what it comes down to, IWNSHO, is do they add anything to the songs? A classic example was Colin Good on keyboards. OK, he was obviously way more than just a session man but he really brought his own take to things and it was absolutely magic. Who will ever forget the introduction he added to 'A Song For Europe'? And when it comes to adding to things - the whole BFO experience was just a revelation with songs that were already great being taken to unbelievable heights. That said, this band is good, very good and W2 thinks our hero probably belongs to the club that thinks excellence is a journey not a destination. Salutations, Windswept. |
