I love it and play pieces from it often. I especially like the version of I Thought, which is one of my favorite Ferry songs; the original all aching longing and remorse and the Jazz Age Version a light confection with the same haunting undercurrent.

I Thought

Following an earlier thread in which I described 'The Jazz Age ' as a "sack o' shite ", I tried to listen to every track on YouTube this afternoon.

Couldn't get further than one minute into any track, truly disturbing.

Cleansed my soul by watching Roxy Music in Dortmund 1980 and promised myself never to upset myself like that ever again.

What was the man thinking? (£$€¥$€£¥!!!)

Sorry, but I hate THE JAZZ AGE.

For me the most superfluous of all Bryan Ferry albums. I have indeed been disposed of for years.

Never really warmed up to The Jazz Age. It seemed just still another reworking of existing songs. A clever idea which, in my humble opinion, fell a bit flat.

I don't think he did it for the money, it was an experiment which was generally critically acclaimed and led into the great tour of Autumn 2013 and of course a contribution to The Great Gatsby soundtrack which probably was more lucrative for the Bryan Ferry Orchestra.
I must admit, though, I have not played it for a while .

Thanks Everyone;

There are Many Varying Opinions of Jazz Age, both here and on the internet..

But I personally Cannot Help but Love this!!
I think it's Brilliant

The way he took
Completely Modern Songs and arrangements
And Fit them to Jazz Age Music...

And I Love That Era...
Many people who love the music of the past Eras
Seem to Agree

I loved the tour but had little time for the album. A bit like how I feel about the As Time Goes By album. The 1999 album is seldom one I play much if at all yet the tour saw Bryan re-interpreting his back catalogue with an essentially non-rock backing group and revitalising it, as he did again in 2013. If, as I think the David Buckley book suggested, it was the audience's response to the Roxy material on the ATGB tour which further persuaded him to agree to the 2001 Roxy reunion tour then we have even more reason to think highly of it (I'm sure a generous promoter's offer helped reunite them too!).

Think I might have enjoyed the Jazz Age album more with the Ferry voice on top of the arrangements. Still, chacun a son gout, as the much-missed Windswept might say!

I'm with Studebaker. I hate it, but then I hate jazz. The only Bryan Ferry album, if you can call it a Ferry album, that I haven't bought.
