Hello Fellow Ferryfans.. I was singing Pyjamarama to myself all day the other day I Could Not Get it Out of My Head ![]() And I started thinking about all my Favourite lines from Roxy/Ferrysongs.. From Pyjamarama My Favourite line is.. "Never Mind Take the World by Storm.. Just Boogaloo A Rhapsody Divine.." Which I interpret as: Don't worry about becoming Famous.. Just Do What You Love.. Post Script.... There is a Comma in between Never Mind, Take the World By Storm Which Changes the meaning Almost Entirely To: Become Famous by Doing What You Love! Even More Fascinating that the line Can be interpreted both ways...... And From Both Ends Burning "You're a Flame That Never Fades.. Jungle Reds' a Deadly Shade.." (It's a Lipstick Colour.. ![]() Casanova: "Casanova, Is That Your Name Or Do You Live There?" One of the Very best: If There Are Many Meanings the Same.. Then Being Specific Is Just a Game.... I Could Go On and On.. Don't Get Me Started on Mother of Pearl ![]() What are your Favourite Lines from Favourite Roxy/Ferrysongs? Ahahaha You Know That Time Spent Well Is So Rare... ![]()

Once again Teresa, this should have been under ROXY, but; "G-Plan gymnastics by an ever-glow fire, can never seem the same" & "Badgers couldn't take the place at half the price, of just another night with the boys!" Genius. |

Other than Pyjamararama, he's done these songs in his solo shows, so the thread could fit either Roxy or Ferry. And I think the line is "but badgers couldn't compensate at twice the price for just another night with boys" |

The authority in Bryan's delivery of the line "and listen to me, I'm not finished yet" in A Really Good Time. It's like you have just got up to go to the fridge for a drink and he is telling you to sit down and listen to the rest of the song first ![]() J.O'B. |

Wow....so many to choose...an impossible task. The wordplay and mood that Bryan built up on classics like ITIS, MOP, Casanova and Dream Home make selecting just a line or two lines from them as virtually heretical. Here goes: I blew up your body, but you blew my mind. That pause before the final line, then the manic outro of psychotic madness. Just mind-blowing. I've always loved Bryan's puns and wordplaying, image connections, alliteration. Sunset is one of my favourites, connecting writing/paper in a letter of farewell to the day: Cover cutting room floors... Red letter light fades is filed away... Postscript you trace... It conjures a hazy shimmering glow. And a killer line that gets overlooked by us Roxy veterans: You're dressed to kill, And guess who's dying? So clever, and so true when you're heart is breaking. And of course: And the bridge, It sighs. Now that is genius! And from Three and Nine: Three and Nine to 45, Decimal romance, If you've warmed to centigrade you stand a sporting chance (a humorous bit of British parochialism about decimalisation in the UK in the early 70s) As regards delivery, J O'B makes a nice point about his vocal delivery on A Really Good Time. I would put the whole of The Bogus Man in there for it's menace, throaty, glottal. And to go completely off-kilter; I have always got the same menacing feeling when I hear from You Can Dance: Do you come hear often..... Do you want to play? Which reminds me John - there's a chunk missing in the Viva lyrics page to the latter song. ![]() |

I've always loved the opening from All I Want is You: "Somebody told me just the other day/ That you're leaving me, we're through" Wouldn't you rather hear it first hand? And why wait a few days to find out for sure? I find it very funny and sad at the same time but chuckle every time. From Rock of Ages on In Your mind: "Once again, you're the song/ I'm the one who turns the pages" I find that line so incredibly romantic, though I suppose it could be seen as manipulative by the voice of the singer. From "Grey Lagoons": "Morning sickness on Friday Nights" Clever wordplay about a topic most would ignore. And Mother of Pearl-as Teresa said, "don't get me started". |

In reviewing Sunset I've just realised that the next track Serenade begins with the words "Darkness falls..." So we go from a heartfelt farewell to the Sun to Bryan now limbering up for some nighttime"gymnastics." Also, to lighten the mood, this thread reminds me of a post on a defunct Roxy website about misheard lyrics, one lovely lass said when she first heard Virginia Plain she thought the line "To Robert E Lee I'll show it" was "To rub on my knees..." Ha !! |

Oh....where to start! Many to choose from but when I "sing-a-long-a-Bryan" to Beauty Queen I have to make sure I get this right with the correct pronunciation:- All of my hope and my "in-speeer-ation" I drew from you our life's patterns drawn in sand But the winds could not erase the memory of your face ![]() |
