Post subject:  Poems and literature

I have been wondering.....

Bryan has touched on the desire to mix high and low art...a very pop art ideal, since the start, and he has gone through a few literary touchstones since the early days....The gothic realms of Poe in Dream Home, maybe Faustus in there too, Jekyll and Hyde in so many songs, F.Scott Fitzgerald, etc.

I think Nightingale was a bit of poetic whimsy, Keatsian maybe.

Sonnet 18 was a lovely paean to his friend Diana.

He's covered traditional folk song with The Lambton Worm, and a couple of Sea shanties

I think he should do something like put his favourite poems to music, Betjeman did a beautiful album of his own works years ago, achingly British. More recently, PSB have done a stunning modern take of Auden's Night Mail.

Just a thought.....
