I'll go for two........The Lambton Worm (for them not in the knaa this is a Geordie or Mackem ballad aboot a woooorm or sorpent). It was very game to take it on, but I feel our chap instantly regrets it and rather hangs back. And then He'll Have To Go (why oh why oh who oh?).

I don't think the Ferry clan enjoy visiting this site and seeing titles like worst lyric, worst song, worst single etc.!!!!

I like the Lambton Worm, but I am from Sunderland and Penshaw Monument was not far from my home....

I also like the fact Ferry's version of the Worm is mentioned in the greatest -IMO- graphic book ever written, "Alice in Sunderland", it is a beautiful work of art.

Got to agree about "He'll have to go", a dirge on a par with Amazing Grace.

Shouldn't be saying negative things on our boy's birthday!

Hello Vivavoce,
Rendezvous.....

Rendezvous you bring up some nice points,

Ahahaha
Especially since it's Bryan's Birthday

I'll quote our Fabulous Fellow Ferrista Windswept2
All Ferry is Good Ferry...
Even though there are actually a few Roxy/Ferrysongs
I'm Definitely Not Fond Of...

Penshaw Monument is Fascinating,
Up on the Hill, it really looks reminiscint of Italy or Greece

Alice in Sunderland is a Fabulous GAN...
Graphic Arts Novel
The way author Bryan Talbot Ingeniously ties together people and places....

Sigh
Sorry about the Sunderland Cats....

Hmm got to agree about the timing and also 'Worst ever' makes it sound like there's a rich seam to choose from!

Errm...happy birthday Bryan.

Teresa,

Thank you for your posting of the Alice book.

I think it would make an amazing album....

Sorry if the timing/tone was misjudged.
I guess it's partly trying to encourage a bit of lively debate, when the site sometimes seems a bit quiet. And partly thinking that it's ok to gently tease some of the output of an artist and band I've followed (and adored) to a quite ridiculous extent for several decades.

Dance with life , from a soundtrack, is his worst.
I don't think he wrote it though.
And One Way Love , which is a cover.

Hard to think of any worst self penned, though A special kind of guy , is a candidate.

I wouldn't put The Lambton Worm into this category as it was done for a special project which no doubt Bryan was honoured to be part of. Not really aimed at the fans of his usual music. :)

"Worst" is a pretty strong word, so I'll diplomatically rephrase it as "among his least successful tracks."

Awhile back I would have leaped to nominate "You Are My Sunshine" from ATAP, but I spent so many hours in my 1999 Subaru Wagon (the "Green Machine" that racked up over 202,000 miles) with a cassette of ATAP in the tape deck that I actually developed a bit of fondness for YAMS. So I'll give it a pass on this thread.

I like the album Taxi, but Amazing Grace is a weak track and I have trouble figuring out why BF thought it suitable for release. I realize that many others likely share such a perspective, so it gets the nod as qualifying for "among his least successful tracks."

Goin' Down (on Frantic) is also a head scratcher. Bland and undistinguished. It pretty much defines the notion of a "filler track." It easily qualifies for nomination...

Over the summer I got back into listening to Avonmore (the album) and found it more listenable and enjoyable than I did when it was first released. But I can understand why some people are less than enthusiastic about Special Kind of Guy. It is a cloying track... (BTW, have come to be a fan of Midnight Train despite the fact that the lyrics are not among BF's most provocative...)

Regarding He'll Have to Go I have no problem with the version that is on the Live 2015 CD. It's not a super fave of mine, but it works and doesn't sound at all corny (Thanks for the guitar Waddy W!) Also, the version of Bob Dylan's Dream that is on Live 2015 is far superior to the studio version; Neil H has a very nice solo...

Sentimental reasons perhaps. Bryan dedicated the Taxi album to his late mother and Amazing Grace was her favourite song.
