I don't think Chris Thomas walked out during the IYM sessions, it had more to do with BF contracting glandular fever which meant the rescheduling of that tour and probably meant that Thomas was unavailable to continue with the IYM stuff as at the time he was an in demand producer and BF had to get the album finished. |

Hopeful Hepcats, Although W2 likes the IYM record. He considers it good Ferry, rather than peak Ferry. In fact, his fondest memory is not the album itself but rather the tour that accompanied it. W2 knows that a lot of feather boa lovers like IYM because they consider this the Roxy album that never was but Ferry, by releasing a self penned album ,made a clear statement of independence which showed that his solo career was of equal importance to anything he might do with the band. As far as the songs are concerned, it has some good tracks. Notably 'This Is Tommorow', 'Tokyo Joe' and 'In Your Mind'. 'In Your Mind' being IWNSHO a particularly spectacular track that stands the test of time extremely well. The weakest on the album for W2 is "Rock Of Ages' . It's not that it's a disaster, it's purely because with a different treatment it could have been so much better. If the album wasn't peak Ferry, the tour certainly was. Windswept was originally scheduled to see it at Newcastle City Hall in '76 (the year of his nuptials ) but our hero had a throat operation and the gig was canceled until '77. When it happened, it was truly amazing and was a huge demonstration that Ferry was every bit as exciting without Roxy as he was with it. The set list was knock out, the band which included Wetton, Thompson and Spedding were truly superb and the reaction to the gig at City Hall was off the Richter scale. It was a great night that IWM (In Windswept's Mind) showed that Ferry could plough a completely different furrow. Both the album and the tour confirmed completely the validity of his solo career. Great album and defo one of my favs also,Although i'm a huge fan still but like most great older artist's you can't beat the 70's stuff, ive never really got into Avalon,boy's and girl's, bette noir, just don't like that smooth sound really,it's ok but not classics, first 5 roxy,and viva, these foolish things, another time, in your mind, bride stripped bare, can't beat any of them..the raw sound of in your mind is amazing, and not a bad track in there, full band amazing, for me on a later note only frantic came slightly close? rest are just a bit to smooth for my liking, and don't feel there's any later album's in which all the song's are great, only a few good track's on each. |

Don't let's forget though that there were problems with this band at the early stages of the tour. Initially the sound was far from tight, probably due to lack of rehersals and for this reason PM was quickly drafted in for his rhythm playing skills. |

It is interesting that Roger says the sound wasn't right from the get go and that PM was roped in on rhythm. It is a long time ago but Windswept remembers them playing well at Newcastle City Hall and was pretty sure that PM was in the band by then. In any event they certainly got it down pat by the time they got to Japan. The video is yet another testimony to what a great guitarist Spedding is and what a great bass player John Wetton (RIP) was. W2 always found it ironic that Wetton got the gig that BF auditioned for with King Crimson only to wind up playing in Ferry's band. The world of music. All said, you can't help but smile when you watch this stuff. Musically it is great but sartorially, what a mess ! Whoever told TGPT that it was OK to play the drums in his football kit ? We all know he never liked the leotard that BF made him wear in Roxy but this is too big a rebellion. Then you've got a horn section that look like they've just dropped out of a '70s porn movie and Phil going through his silly sweater period. Only the Speddster and Wetton don't fall foul of Ferry's plan to make them look ridiculous so he looks even better! A cunning strategy that IWM (In Windswept's Mind) he employs to this day.
