Somebody once wrote on this forum that it was These Foolish Things that took him, or her, down new musical pathways that they might not have otherwise discovered.
I think it was the Hard Rain single, and accompanying film, that first grabbed my attention to Ferry, followed soon after by Street Lide and that tuxedo and glamour.
In my head, I think I may have bought TFT and Stranded on the same day.
Ferry took a lot of criticism from the music press and diehard Roxy fans , who may still have been grieving Eno’s departure , for his solo album at the time, but you can’t deny that in 1973 he was knocking the tunes out.
I mention all this because of many of the comments posted above, some of which are quite polarised. We all follow this wonderful forum out of a passion and a shared interest for Ferry and Roxy Music.
Some of us have our own personal favourites and periods of this (our) journey. I’ve been with this music since 1973 , and indeed an ex-partner of mine sagely stated that my relationship with Ferry is , bar family, the longest one in my life.
I’m happy to follow his muse, whether it be alternative dance, disco, blues, folk, jazz , soul , or good old fashioned 1930’s standards.

As a Postscript, have gone back recently to Another Time, Another Place recently which the great JO’B has said that he rated less than other records,(as well as Siren, surprisingly). I would have liked this current tour to have included Walk a Mile in my Shoes, Fingerpoppin’, and the title track. Peak Ferry.

Hipsters,
What an excellent intervention from avalon_eyes.
It probably calls for a separate thread.
Windswept lui-meme understands completely the educational value of friend Ferry.
W2 had a musical life pre-Ferry but it was his influence that broadened the horizons and for this he is, was and remains eternally grateful.
Salutations,
W2
