I just came across this group of BF video clips - apparently from a private party.

Interesting that the band includes Ollie Thompson!

Not sure when this gig took place, but it appears to be of relatively recent vintage...

Hmm interesting no bass player. Can't be doing with the robotic drummer.

Hipsters,
Windswept hates seeing our hero in this environment.
The corporate do with the dad dancing is so not him.
Rather than this nonsense W2 would love to see him do a short residency at ‘Ronnie Scotts’ or ‘The Blue Note’ in NYC.
Surely that would be more his scene ?
Salutations,
W2

I do too. I'm sure they're extremely lucrative (and he does plenty of them) but somehow they feel demeaning. Sorry, but 'prostituting oneself' sprang to mind as I watched. :(

It`s odd, very odd. The first clip was enough for me. I agree, it`s just not him. However, even The Rolling Stones did a private party gig one time in Toronto around 1977.

A private concert for the discerning members of the forum?
If we all chip in..? ;)

Many rock/pop stars of days gone by are more than willing to play private gigs if the compensation is deemed appropriate.

A little while back there was notice in the press that Elton John played a wedding gig (solo piano and vocal) for $2 million - nice work if you can get it!

My dentist told me that one of her friends had considered hiring James Taylor to perform an hour worth of solo guitar and vocals for $50,000 plus all travel (personal jet) and accommodation expenses but decided it was a bit too much...

I figure that engaging BF and his "corporate band" for an evening's entertainment would be at least 100,000 pounds (plus expenses) and might well be much more...

I think that private gigs are simply a way for artists to pay the bills in a world where if you depend upon selling albums to pay the rent (or property taxes!) you'll end up in, let's say, "diminished circumstances." Given what it probably cost to pay the backing musicians on "Bitter Sweet" BF will be lucky if the album ends up breaking even...

Long time members of this forum might recall long ago posts I made on TGPT's forum bemoaning how BF cancelled his Philly area Frantic show in November 2002 so he could interrupt his US Tour and fly to Russia to entertain some oligarch at a private gig. I had tickets to some great seats and it rankled me that BF blew off many of his loyal Philly fans for the pleasure of some Russian fatcat. Private gigs are OK in the abstract, but not if they come at the expense of his less financially fortunate loyal fans!

DCJ - that's a summary that resonates me (unfortunately).
