There was a mini- discussion on the RAH 2020 topic about Ferry’s vocal strengths , or weakness , whichever way you look at it.
But I love the way he sings “ the night is cold” on The Thrill of it All , and “ never again, no, will I give up my heart” on Just Like You.
2020 Ferry being 70 plus years old, he cannot be the singer he was 45 years previously, but he still is BF.

Serenading Sophisticates,

Windswept violently agrees with avolon_eyes and applauds the way our hero’s voice is evolving.

It has a soulful timber that brings a new depth and resonance to his songs that bestow many with a new beauty. It has aged like a fabulous wine.

Furthermore, as W2 has mentioned on numerous occasions, his matured voice coupled with some revised arrangements are making for some beautiful renditions. The stripped back version of ‘More Than This’ that he showcased a couple of years ago was a classic example. How W2 wishes he’d committed that one to disc.

Yes, as RAH 2020 shows, there is much to enjoy and hopefully more to come.

Salutations,

W2

Personally I think his live voice sounds better than his studio vocals, Johnny and Mary being a good example the live version he performed with Todd Terje is much better than the version on avonmore and whether its down to the mix or the backing vocals live I just think his voice sounds stronger live.

I think that, vocally, Olympia was his poorest album. A pity, as it had some stunning lyrics and arrangements.
