The other night I was watching a documentary about Mae West and I heard her sing a song called 'My Old Flame' 1934 - IMO It's a song about pretending not to be bothered about an important part of the past - it suited her haughty ways and undermined them at the same time - It was obvious she knew this and played on the irony ...the second line is the killer ... Then I discovered this version by Billie Holliday 1944 and I Immediately thought that it should've been on 'As time goes by' - The poignancy, irony and humour of the song would've suited BF perfectly and lets face it there is definitely one particular old flame that would fit the part....

Never heard this song before Gardner, but having given Billie's version a listen, I completely agree with you. It's wistful and would've fitted into ATGB's eclectic selections with ease. I can imagine too, the rather wonderful phrasing BF could bring to this one. It's almost tailor made for him.

Mes Amis,
C’est un idee fabuleuse du ‘Jardinier’ - bravo !
W2 would love to see our hero partner with Colin Good to do a second album of chansons and for sure, a rendition of this Johnston/Coslow classic would be a must.
Another great candidate would be the Kahn/Donaldson song, ‘Riptide’ . The late great Robert Palmer did a great version of this classic but W2 would love to see Bryan sprinkle some Ferry dust on it.
Windswept dreams of a volume 2 album and associated tour.
We must fandango some more !
Salutations a tous meme les gens du club des travailleurs de South Hylton.
W2
