The video for 'Star' becomes available in a few hours but the audio is available to stream now. Hmmm, very different! Will take a few plays I think but BF is most definitely not standing still when it comes to his musical style.

Oh my - very different, and quite unexpected (one assumes this is what PM was referring to when he spoke of BF’s new and innovative studio work… pleas for ‘bravery’ etc have been answered in the affirmative, it seems!). This has shades of his work with Todd terje, circa Avonmore. A strong hint of groove armada (shameless, Olympia) also. Shame the lyric is somewhat “lost in the noise”, although I guess that’s kind of the point in such a track. A strong beat nonetheless, very dark and urban… sort of downtown LA in the 80s vibe. The best thing about this new release - and I await the video with interest - is that it proves beyond all reasonable doubt that BF ain’t done yet…!! Looking forward to news of further releases (of which there must be several, assuming one doesn’t “reinvent” for one track only)…. Viva Roxy Gaz

Far too short - might’ve been double the length - is reminiscent of Shameless with Groove armada but more ‘avant garde’ The young artist / poet Amelia Barrett seems to be a big influence .. contributing to the lyrics and performance. For me it’s a welcome kick up the arse after the ‘Love letters’ slumber fest ..

Surprising, not bad at all... And Trent Reznor is always welcome.

One of the reasons I've admired his work for a long time is the variety of his work. How many people can do stuff like Re-make Re-model to 30s ballads, jazz and so much more in between.
Have to say tho at the moment this is a step too far for me. Probably need a few more listens lol.
Is this a one off or what?

Bon soir, mes amis! Now, this was unexpected. But I like the avantgarde à la Olympia. À votre santé!

Some more information: https://ultimateclassicrock.com/bryan-ferry-star-song/So there is more to come like this one ... I was a little bit perplexed when I first listened to "Star". Unexpected, hypnotic, exceptional. Nothing you would have guessed before. Bryan's voice (and the melody) in the background. Does he appear on the video? I haven't discovered him so far ... And: too short. Or not? I am very excited to read the comments here. -p-

I really like it and would love if there was a full album along the lines of this style. I think collaborations like he did with Groove Armada, Todd Terje and Amelia Barratt here are definitely the way forward if he is wanting to continue to make music and explore new styles. Yes we all know his voice isn’t what it was and he would struggle with the tracks that he wrote years ago but even attempting this style shows that he’s not finished yet. His voice in these types of tracks can be sampled, electronically manipulated, use of a vocoder etc. Now I know some fans will hate this but that’s fine and understandable. I love this type of electronic/techno style music and even make it myself. It’s not for everyone I get but I’m pleased to see Bryan try something different.

This is Ferry doing what he has always done, breaking new ground in delivering something as innovative like this and taking us all by surprise.
It’s definitely a grower and whilst a hear a few classic vocal Ferry tropes in there , the voice seems to fit the tracks. And the lyrics.
And yes, it is short , but I also expect it to be accessible to a wider audience through radio play.
