This is a cover version I did with my singer friend Ross Wilson of Bryan Ferry's 'Cruel'

http://soundcloud.com/pobsboy/cruel-final-mix

It started off as a potential track for the tribute CD 'Take Refuge In Pleasure' but as Ross was living in London at the time it took ages for me to get him up here to record the vocals and by then we were too late for the album.

I chose this song because first and foremost I like the song and mainly because I thought that a lot of the other entries for the album would be from the earlier Roxy period.

I slowed it down and tried to cover it as if I was Bryan Ferry covering someone else's song. There are wee references to other Roxy tracks in a subtle way within it. (South Down, Pride And The Pain)

Nice work John! Hats off to Ross!

Bryan was my inspiration to write and sing! GB busted my heart and Bryan was the catalyst to express that loss. Just Another High rings True To Life.

Thanks Bryan!

John,

YOU ARE A DARK HORSE!

After all theses years I now find out about your musical talent!!!!

Great version. How can I get to play this on my iPhone in my car?

Btw, sometimes it takes a great cover to really point to the greatness of a song. Just like willy deville's slave to love version. Cruel really sounds great here. Weren't those alphaville songs great?!

Robert :D

I have put the 'Download Enable' on so I think it can be downloaded now.

Let me know if you have any bother.

John,

That's really lovely interpretation of Cruel.

I am very impressed.

Listening again.. even better than the first time. Forgive me if I can see Ferry's approval of the slower tempo , it does work better than the original. And the arrangement/backing is quintessential ,well not Ferry, but Roxy. Quietly brilliant... forgive me again , but praise due.

..any more stuff? yeah, just knock it out....
