Bryan and Roxy have influenced many hugely successful UK bands such as U2, Duran, Spandau Ballet, Ultravox, Suede, Blur and Pulp. Additionally, his music is revered on the international stage. He thoroughly deserves this award.

Is that the social transformation complete then? At least Bowie had the good grace to turn his down!

Well, I don't know. I've never thought the honours system right or relevant but some people do. Who's right, who's wrong, who cares? As long as BF/Roxy, play, make music, I'm happy with that.

It is a very bizzare set up relative to the gongs. It's a bit of a political "stitch up". For instance, Bryan would never have got the award if we had a Labour government in power, for all he is a great friend of Tony Blair. (They play tennis together when time permits,to suit Bryan's fixture list, not Tony's),.
If Mr. Cameron had been in Government circa, 2006. it would have happened then. Don't wan't embroiled in political guff, not on this site, but it is a sad fact, albeit true.Tory's get gongs from the Torie's and Labourite's, vice versa.
There was also, of course, the issue of Bryan and Princess Margaret lighting up the same cigarette at the same time, so to speak, which, by all accounts, did not go down too well in circles at the bottom end of The Mall, putting things back two decades, or so.

Not withstanding this, if the lapse in time between Sir Brucie getting his C.B.E., and his well deserved knighthood finally getting the rubber stamp, is anything to go by, we can all look forward to seeing Sir Bryan Ferry on the 2017 "Retrospective" tour. A prelude to his then forthcoming album.

For better or for worse, and all of the politics aside, this is the system that we use to recognise our great and our good.

It is a fine tribute to the man and it is great to see him being recognised in this way.
