I have been working at Bryan Ferry's studio/office lately and while there I had the privilage of being invited along to a private performance that Bryan did for the TV recording of Laureus World Sports Awards. His performance of Don't Stop The Dance can be seen here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0StcJkSRXOc J.O'B. |

I was trying to figure out the connection between BF and Laureus WS so it went to Wikipedia and discovered that IWC Schaffhausen is one of the "Global Partners" supporting LWS. And just last month BF was featured at the big IWC Schaffhausen confab in Switzerland. Apparently BF's relationship with IWC Schaffhausen is rather far-ranging. Nothing wrong with that. It's just interesting how deep this connection appears to be... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laureus_Wo ... rts_Awards Regarding BF's performance at LWS, there were certainly a lot of people on stage with him, but clearly the bulk of the music was prerecorded. BF's vocal seemed live and OT was live, but I'm not sure Jorja was live. And the drummer looked good but she could have missed a beat and no one would have heard it! |

No the sax solo was still David Sanborn, it's a shame Jorja couldn't have done a live solo, OT seems to be the the only musician allowed to play live at these events. |

Mixing live instruments with a pre-recorded track is not easy to do, or at least it's not easy if you're looking for a "seamless" sound. BF's Sound Guy has to be real good just to get OT to sound OK; I can imagine that a live sax would present a whole other set of problems. But at least Jorja got paid for the gig and good for her! |

...the majority of TV performances use playback due to the logistical difficulties of getting large amounts of backline on & off tiny stages quickly...the obv exception is Later with Joolz...it's to bf's credit that he had live vocals and ollie; most artists wouldn't care!! |

I think the difference here is that the performance was in front of a live LWS audience; it wasn't a TV performance per se where lip syncing is not unusual. How invested the LWS audience was in BF's two song performance is a question I can't answer, but - it seems to me - if the whole performance had been prerecorded and simply played back that wouldn't have been very interesting to the crowd. |

I was at the recording of this, show. The band did play in front of the audience. They had 6 minutes to get on stage. During this period a video played on the large screen. The video was sport related. As pointed out the quick on-off stage situation means it is not logistical to have everything live. J.O'B. |

Lucky you John. Gosh how observant of you DCJ I didn't even give a thought that the music may have been pre-recorded ('Money for old rope' there then for the musicians.). Although I did think it was a great sound considering only three band members. Anyone know anything about the female drummer that played that night? |

The drummer was Emily Dolan Davis who also played on the Olympia album. http://www.vivaroxymusic.com/musicians_714.php J.O'B. |
