Didn't like the way Mick moved in on Jerry and cut Bryan's grass. I wonder if he wrote Siren before or after she left for the little fella? The whole album is written like Bryan was hurtin', BIG TIME. Think she still thinks of Bryan? Nope. http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/independent-woman/celebrity-news-gossip/jerry-halls-second-act-3126571.html |

She was the cover girl for Siren and the return to London from the photo shoot has been reported as the start (rather than the end) of her love affair with BF. That album was released in 1975 and she appeared in the promo video for Let's Stick Together the following year, so they were at their closest after Siren. If her departure caused any bleakness or heartache in BF's lyrics, I'd have thought The Bride Stripped Bare might be a better place to look. |

I think Msudge is spot on. The Bride Stripped Bare was a little after they brok up, hence songs like Carrickfergus, Broken Wings, When She Walks In The Room. All a bit sad and melancholy. |

...then I wonder where all the sadness of Siren came from? Bryan is practically crying on End of The Line. |

He's always had that "crying for lost love" in his compositions. "Chance Meeting", "Beauty Queen", "A Song For Europe", "All I Want Is You", those types, so that kind of theme isn't just unique to Siren. |

None of the "Siren" tracks could have been about her as they were probably written before they met ( nor was "Prairie Rose" as some journalists etc. like to make out). I remember reading an article in the Daily Express, which says one of BF's friends noticed in the gossip columns, that Hall had been spotted with Jagger and that they were an item. This was when BF was holed up in Switzerland recording "The Bride", and the person had the difficult task of informing him of the story, so it's doubtful that any of those tracks were about her either. |

thanks to all. well, I guess Bryan only knows when he wrote Siren. It's so sad & gut wrenching. I learned how to sing from that album. Most of the songs hit home when I lost Gloria. "Thanks Bryan!" |

Now it has always puzzled me how on earth BF managed to write Prairie Rose as a tribute to Jerry Hall on the 4th album when he didn't even meet her until around the 5th album.. So what it says on Wikipedia and elsewhere: "Ferry's paean to Hall, "Prairie Rose", directly inspired the Talking Heads song "The Big Country"(...)" -is then totally and utterly wrong and has misguided me for years? How...unnice ![]() |

Did you know that the Scottish band Big Country did a cover of "Prairie Rose" because of the line in the song "Lonesome star shine on the big country"? |

It's strange that we generally call Big Country a Scottish band. Their guitar sound was definitely inspired by the "skirl o' the pipes" and there is a strong Scottish feel and spirit to their songs - plus they routinely appear on lists of "Best Scottish band ever" and on "Scottish rock" compilations etc. However none of their signature line up were Scots. Stuart Adamson came closest as he was reared in Fife - but even he was born south of the border (Manchester, I think). |
