Was watching a Roxy documentary on Sky last night. In it Phil stated that he'd signed a contract with another band shortly before Roxy reformed in '79. Hadn't heard this before - anyone know which band it was?

That is interesting. I had never heard of PM signing with another band. Could it refer to a more formalized 801 type band that he would lead? Just a guess on my part...

I'm pretty sure Manzanera mentions it on either the more than this dvd or Roxy Music story which was on radio two last year or both, as he said he was in a bit of a flap at the time as he had signed the contract when Ferry rang him about rejoining Roxy and told him to unsign it.

I think he was working with Godley and Cream of 10cc at the time. They had worked on his solo albums and he did stuff on one of their albums. If I remember right they were to form a band called GCM.
Some of the material on the Godley + Creme album 'Freeze Frame' was co-written with Phil and intended for GCM
