I just listened to Jimi from a link off of the Manzanera website, and it is generally interesting/enjoyable. But it got me wondering about why I find spoken poetry to be so exhausting - after listening to this track I feel like I've lectured at by someone who seems quite certain that they are hipper and more culturally savvy than I am.

The effect is heightened by a heavy plodding drum sound that I don't at all associate with Jimi himself. Mitch Mitchell was one of the jazziest of all ROCK drummers and Buddy Miles could lay down a solid groove, that never seemed oppressive.

So I'm thinking, Kudos to Phil for a fine collaboration. But is this track that I want to listen to more than once or maybe twice? Hard to say. What think you all...

Thank you DCJ ! I agree. These people are just ignorant and arrogant. Right from my schoolboy days, this has always annoyed me. So called experts telling you that if you didn't like classical music, poetry,Shakespeare,Dickens, Blues, etc, then something was wrong with you.You just didn't get it. But, it's just personal taste.

Amen to all of that, DCJ. :?

Phil's guitar work is buried behind a strident poetry "reading" which reminded me too much of rap (which is always spelled with a silent C in my book...) and an unsympathetic drummer (or possibly drum machine).

Unless the rest of the album differs markedly from Jimi, it won't be one for my shelves, I fear.
