A pal at work saw Mott at Hammersmith the other night with Andy on sax. Wish I'd been there. Shame no dates elsewhere

Am I wrong in thinking, however, that the music press was once full of rumour that MacKay was jumping ship for Mott due to his dissatisfaction over the Eno departure? Damn sure he appeared in a Mott video in his 'riverboat gambler' gear?

I heard that rumour too. I think Mott were recording in the studio next door to Roxy and because of all the bad feeling surrounding Eno's departure, Andy was spending more and more time with Mott rather than with Roxy. Eventually he asked them if he could join. There was another rumour that Mott had one sax player for the mellow bits on one of their albums and used Andy for the more rock stuff. Now I realise that Andy's not the greatest sax player in the world, but, the other guy was horrified by how bad Andy sounded and insisted that his name was taken off the credits as he thought people may think he played the bits that Andy played ! So Andy's been credited with playing all saxes !

A wee bump for this one. Tickets bought for Mott the Hoople in Glasgow, the night after Bryan's show funnily enough. What chance the king of sax guesting? After all plenty of sax in their biggest hits,
