Post subject: | Andy's Sax |
I dived into one of my fav. Roxy songs on Youtube and I discovered something which made me wonder... On "Song from Europe" in the early seventies, Andy used, as on the original "Stranded" record, Tenor-sax. This clip is deffinatly no good sound-clip, still it makes a more barock and continantal ambience, which pays the original recording justice.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpY0ntFZ ... re=related Also remark; The Jobson keyboard treatment of the cembalo sound fits nicely, and reminds me of French romantic movies of the sixties.. Here, on this clip, the Tenor-sax is changed with alto, I always wondered why? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zWrxQXzyGE and Ferrys singing seems deeper. Maybe just to opposite it (?) and here from the 2001 -tour, I love the fine piano intro.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFPQa-pEt9c and then, back to the tenor.. ![]() |

Well Andy definitely had his tenor sax with him at the 1979 gig so he wasn't just improvising because he had left it behind in the hotel room. That would have been a nice story though! I guess that the most likely reason for the alto sax on the Manifesto tour would just be to change things around a bit and give a different delivery of familiar song. To my untrained ear, Andy produces a very lyrical solo with the alto sax - but I prefer the normal tenor sax on this one as it is more in keeping with the ambience of the song. |
