Although not my favourite album anymore (that's now Country Life) the inside gatefold of For Your Pleasure is my favourite album artwork.

However, despite actual and cyber research, I've never managed to put a name or make to the peculiar guitar held by The Emperor Himself?

Any speculations or actual facts gratefully received.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Stabbs

Stabbs,

I'm sure I read an article or heard an interview with Phil about the guitars used for the FYI sleeve. I'm think he said that the instrument that Andy had was acquired by Eno on his travels. Unfortunately I've spent a bit of time on the internet and can't find anything. I'll have a look in some of my guitar books shortly to see if I can get any ideas.

Stabbs,

I don't know if you have seen this image before, but it shows the guitar in more detail, particularly when enlarged. I still can't remember whether it was an article of radio interview (Phil did a fair few last year) where he spoke about the FYP guitars. From memory Paul is holding the Gibson Les Paul that John Porter owned. Phil used this guitar for several years, even when John sold it (Phil managed to trace the owner and borrow it from him), Bryan is holding a Hagstrom (possibly late 50s/early 60s that belonged to Paul?) and Phil has Firebird VII. I don't think Eno's guitar was mentioned (and I can't ID it). I'm sure that Phil said that the guitar Andy is holding was a decorative instrument from Morocco/North Africa that he bought while travelling. It's certainly six string and might have a pick up. I'd have to say that the neck/fretboard dimensions don't look great - I wouldn't fancy playing it! In the meantime I'll keep looking on-line and in my guitar books.

Roger

You may be onto something there Roxy - that would explain the shape and neck dimensions of the guitar. This is something similar:

Now that makes a lot of sense, hence the dimensions of the neck!
Thanks to both of you.

Stabbs & Roger, I done a bit of research on lap steel guitars a few years ago and couldn't find one the same as Andy's but one which was very similar , it was a VEGA (something) model. I think the guitar may have belonged to Eno? 8-)
