I sympathize with you, Oberon, but is it certain that it`s Rhett Davies who is the devil behind the dense productions? Couldn`t it be that it is BF himself? I say this `cause it can be a little too dense to my taste.

I picked up a copy of Joyland at Spedding's gig at London's 100 Club last night and it's pretty good, even if £15 is a bit steep for 36 mins music!

The CD can be pre-ordered from Amazon (UK) for £11.99, but there have been conflicting rumours of its eventual (heavily delayed; it was due for his 70th birthday last June...) release date. Even the merchandise seller said "end of this month... hopefully!", so I decided to buy now.

The record label itself seems to be selling it on eBay, which suggests that it's already available in the USA:

The BF track is one of the highlights, but you don't get much of Andy for your money on his track.

Spedding was on good form last night and there was a decent turn-out for a Sat night, including a few youngsters who were possibly friends of one of the support acts. I heard one lad say, as a compliment, that he'd never heard anyone like Spedding before (stick with it, son; there's a whole new world of real music out there! )...

Here's a link to a Spedding interview too, for those who may be interested:

And a review of Saturday's gig, with some more album info, by that most readable of writers, Richard Williams:

Elegantly Ageing Hipsters,
What a great guy Spedding is.
Completely unassuming and the consummate musician.
He is up there with Windswept's all time guitar heroes - Hank Marvin, Duane Eddie and Richard Hawley.
W2 wishes him every success with 'Joyland' and hopes like hell that he tours with our hero this summer.
Salutations,
Windswept.
Aujourd'hui et pour toujours, nous sommes tous Charlie!

The MP3 is now available for download on amazon.de and amazon.co.uk. (Just saw it on facebook, thanks to Osakajane 8-) )

I haven't listened to the full album yet, but I really love Gun Shaft City.

Thanks for the link. I had ordered my copy from jpc.de but couldn't wait ;) . Just downloaded 'Gun Shaft City' (great stuff!) and 'Pied Piper' with some nice flute/oboe/sax playing from Andy Mackay (so good to hear him once again!).
