The tempo of the songs...

This may have been discussed before but I have noticed that in concert RM plays their songs at a faster rate than earlier live versions. This is especially noticeable in "Both Ends Burning" and "Out of the Blue" - as well as "Oh Yeah". What's the deal? I have guessed that the pace is more commercial? Making the songs more "accessible" when performed live? Me - I'll take the raw and deliberate pace from "Viva! Roxy Music" versus the pace noted during the 2001 reunion....

My usual view is that a faster tempo doesn`t make a song sound better. Out of the Blue and Both Ends Burning don`t benefit from a faster tempo. However, the faster tempo on Oh Yeah on Roxy Live sounded refreshing.

Along with the speeded up versions, love me madly again and this island earth from the dylanesque tour there is also the creeping chopping of lyrics in performance now.

He did the same thing with Manifesto and Trash 2 as b-sides

Like them all but the nice thing about slower is that you can listen longer !

somewhat regrettably, i have to say i think it boils down to vocals

as discussed, ferry's voice 'aint what it used to be - and by 'rushing' through songs, he doesn't have to strain for the longer, harder notes of old...
