Not usually our favoured records but we’ve all bought them . I’m just wandering what might be the most popular of the many greatest hits releases , both Roxy Music and Roxy/Ferry As an aside , to my mind there has only ever been one Ferry solo compilation.

You're right avalon_eyes, they're not the most exciting of releases, are they? Early compilations at least maintained the profile - in particular The Ultimate Collection which I think was the biggest seller of all Roxy / Ferry albums. However, since then there's been steadily diminishing returns, culminating in poor sales of BF's one and only solo collection 12 years ago. I think most of them have left something to he desired by virtue of track selections and omissions. On that basis, I'd say The Platinum Collection is by far the best as it's very comprehensive. In the UK currently, there's something of a fascination for cheap (£5) compilations, invariably titled 'Gold' that seem popular in supermarkets and meet with minor to moderate chart success too. I wouldn't mind seeing something similar from Roxy / BF if it helped to raise some interest. Some might argue it would cheapen the 'brand' but to some extent there's a precedent already with the 2004 EMI 'Collection' releases. I'd argue rebranding The Platinum Collection as a budget release wouldn't be a bad idea. I know the endless compilations have exasperated some in the past, but 12 years on from the last one, I don't think it would prove terribly contentious this time around....?

The Early Years too? I understand if not for this list as it is looking only a specific period of the output of this magnificent group

For nostalgic reasons my favourite is the 1977 comp If a vol 2 version appear (not a chance) that would work for me, although the 4cd thrill covers this I guess

I’d forgotten about the 2009 Best of Bryan Ferry. I’m sure we could all make our own compilations of tracks and I think the 1977 Greatest Hits might be a favourite here- there weren’t so many hits back then, but many stand out tracks. Street Life was a Number 1 album , possibly the biggest seller, with the Ultimate Collection coming out 2 years later , which I thought odd at the time.

Quote: Street Life was a Number 1 album , possibly the biggest seller Although The Ultimate Collection didn't reach no.1, somehow it garnered triple platinum status, compared to platinum for Street Life and the other best-selling Roxy/ BF albums.

The Ultimate Collection although only reaching #6 benefitted greatly from the Christmas market.
Street Life spent 5 weeks at #1 and something like 88 weeks in total on the chart. Alan Jones noted at the time in Record Mirror that it sold 200,000 copies in it's first 3 weeks at number 1 at time of year when sales are generally much lower.
Eno also had at least one compilation - 'More Blank than Frank'. Can't remember when it was released, but I did buy it.

A fave for me has to be the 1995 ROXY MUSIC compilation aka The Thrill Of It All (4 cd). Not to be confused with the 2 dvd set of the same name.
