Purely accidental! I was doing my business and
he walked in, stood to my left and he asked me
where I was from. That's all. Nice fellow, God
rest his soul.

What kind of native are you Smudge?

What kind of native are you Smudge?

Just a native Brit! :D My surname is so "popular", though, that researching family history is almost impossible; by the time you go back three or four generations you generally find some Scottish blood in the mix, which is probably why I feel at home in this forum!

Now, we really should get this discussion back on to the boxed set! Does anyone actually have an expensive enough hi-fi in a big enough room to fully appreciate the DVD audio discs? If so, can we all come round for lunch on 2nd April?! ;)

Maybe we're related! My great grandfather
came from Kyleakin, Skye in 1885.

I have Altec-Lansing Santana II speakers
with rosewood that I bought in 1977 or '78.

If you can make your way to Canada, feel
free to drop by and I'll whip up some poutine
for you!

Anyone else?

It is very tempting Erland - but perhaps a tad too far. I will be with you in spirit when the day comes and will be interested to find out what you think of the sound quality.

I wonder if I am the only person to find the inclusion of the live version of FYP on the Siren disc to be a bit incongruous. If the objective of this set is to capture all of the Roxy studio output then why stick a live track in there?

Wouldn't it be better to include this within a live album box set along with all of the longed for releases mentioned elsewhere in this thread?

Thanks for being here in the future Avondale. I
will indeed let you know about the music quality.
But then, my speakers are excellent! Can't wait.

Who knows what they think when they put this
package together. Is it just Bryan? The band?
The record company? The marketing team?

I'm into marketing and it's always better to
ask the customers what they want (survey)
rather than ramming a product down their throats.

"Take it or leave it"! Know what I mean?

Hey Bryan, waddya think? Who's involved?

The live for your pleasure is purely due to the fact that it was the 'b' side of both ends burning and strictly speaking sticking to the rounding up of released output. It will be interesting (hopefully) to see what we get when they get round to viva, even if it's only the original planned double album.

I get that and I find it strange to argue that less is better - but it jars a bit with the pedant in me. Maybe the set should be called "The Complete Studio Recordings 1972-1982 Plus 1 No. Live Track". That way, what it says on the tin is what you get !

I imagine that there will be some unsuspecting soul out there who has heard and likes the hits and thinks that he/she knows what Roxy is all about - so decides to buy this set on a whim (probably, given the likely price point, after a few bevvies). He/she will doubtless play to death the later albums where most of the "hits" are to be found until one day, wanting to justify that OTT purchase, thinks "I guess I had better try one of these other albums out for size" and sticks on the 1st album or FYP. Oh, how I envy this person. Never mind £79 or £99. To re-live the experience of hearing these albums for the first time would be priceless !

Now that I think about it, it is interesting that Viva! was not included in this big "comprehensive" release of the 1972-1982 Roxy catalog. Perhaps there is a totally separate plan to release an expanded Viva! - and perhaps it could be included with the live Musique tracks recorded in the 1982 tour (from whence Like a Hurricane was revived for the Roxy 2011 tour).

The only live material from classic Roxy that I would not be real excited about would be Siren era live tracks that feature the Sirens on backing vocals. But I would love to hear more live stuff from the great Country Life tour line-up that included John Wetton.

It would be nice if they could release an expanded viva with the full concerts (Glasgow '73, Newcastle '74 and Wembley '75) included. Newcastle '74 especially sounds better than the viva version, Mackay is virtually mixed out of the bogus man.

Of the rarities/unreleased stuff etc... Viva! seems a popular choice amongst the Roxyites. I'll be surprised if nothing from that album/tour 73/74/75 is considered and looked at for future release.

And let's not forget a DVD to accompany it..... to also feed the eyes as well as the ears, Oh yes!

Still waiting for last years Manchester gig to come forth, what's happened to that? hope that's not been shelved for the next 40 years ;)
