Somehow this article gives me a foreboding sense that one of these days BF is going to pass from This Island Earth in the early morning hours after a Big Bash arranged by his second wife. Her parties seem to revel in being waaaay Over-the-Top and IMHO that isn't good for the long term well being of a 67 year old hipster... http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/lon ... 78104.htmlI hope BF lives long and prospers! But trying to keep up with his wife looks like a perilous endeavor...

For the sake of musical inspiration, I'd rather he spend time burning both ends. Staying at home sucking werther's originals doesn't make for good sounds

Mes Amis, Tres interessant! The great Roxysiren has a point - if you buy all those suits, you've got to go out and wear them! That said, let's hope that by this stage of the game, he's only conducting investigations and is more an observer than a participant - that way he will be able to write songs about it without finishing up in A&E! Then again, sitting next to somebody at dinner who is wearing red headphones (not too pretentious - this one) can't be that taxing but I can't think it would make for a great song. It tales all sorts. Regards, Windswept.

I certainly don't think that BF need be some monkish shut-in, hunkered down in a darkened drawing room with the curtains pulled tight. But Amanda and her party-planning friend seem to be waaaay over on the other end of the spectrum.
It's one thing to have both ends burning when you're in your 30s (although this too can have its repercussions) and something else again as you approach your eighth decade of life.
Presumably they are happy in the here-and-now. But as the years tick by, I wonder how sustainable this relationship will prove to be...
May he live long and prosper! And soon release that new album with Johnny Marr!

Fair point DCJ. We don't want him croaking any time soon. Maybe his living vicariously will do the trick to provide inspiration without too much perspiration.

I still like to party ( on occasions) myself .. But the article just makes me yawn ... It's like a spoof of Made in Chelsea. I don't think she could've sounded any shallower ...Especially in these cash strapped times .... They sound like a dreadful crowd of spoiled Yahs .. Just dreadful ....

I for one would like to be associated with the words of the last speaker.

But hasn't vacuous decadence always been part of the Roxy/Ferry allure ? So why be critical if the main man walks the walk ?

"Vacuous Decadence" - I can't say that's something I associate with Ferry / Roxy. Style - yes, and we know the sort of style our man epitomises doesn't come cheap - that's a given. But the account here (if reliable) leaves a somewhat unpleasant taste precisely because it does sound utterly vacuous and comes at a time when c.52% of families report concerns about their ability to meet monthly outgoings at a time of falling incomes and rising expenses (bbc.co.uk/news).
I think Gardner therefore makes a very valid point.

Usually there is an air of melancholy or ennui about Ferry's work - in his early work there was plenty of scorn and irony aimed at " vacuous decadence" - it was an interesting way of making poetry about a subject but creating tension by standing outside. it was always this duality which excited me about the work of Roxy Music and Ferry - his work was about cinema and travel and art and comedy and sadness ... And so many other layers and suggestions of things .... This article with his wife bragging about her empty party life is none of the above . It's embarrassing , it's shallow, it's about greed and excess and it paints a terrible picture of her mindset. It's actually astonishing in it's lack of subtlety !!!
