I think the reason why these albums are so good is because Phil and Andy are writing material and have the space to play as they can, which wasn't the case with Avalon. I think Phil also enjoyed being the only guitarist in the band as he was originally with Roxy. Totally different with Avalon - - Phil often gets credited for the guitar parts that Neil Hubbard had played, but he's always quite gracious about that.
Perhaps my favourite track is Prussian Blue with Phil at his best and some epic drumming by Steve Gadd.
