Apologies if this has been posted before:

There seems to be a contradiction at the end of the Avalon tour as Phil is quoted as saying to BF "It's been a great pressure working with you" and flying back to the UK ASAP, but this interview implies that he wanted Roxy to continue?

I don't take from this that he wanted it to continue, because although he cites the bigger US audiences, in tandem he mentions the slow rate of work, the untapped musical resources within the group, and the associated frustrations. I think what is unmistakable is the disappointment that the band was wound up without any discussion at all - merely being informed by management, something PM describes as "cowardly".

Thank you for posting, Roger. I liked this first Explorers album because it reminded me more of Roxy than Bryan's Boys And Girls (too dark IMHO). Lorelei or Venus De Milo with Bryan's voice ... could have been fantastic 8-) .

I agree. There“s so much in there. The oboe and stuff.

I like the first album and also the Manzanera/Mackay one. I think the reason why these albums are so good is because Phil and Andy are writing material and have the space to play as they can, which wasn't the case with Avalon. I think Phil also enjoyed being the only guitarist in the band as he was originally with Roxy. Totally different with Avalon - - Phil often gets credited for the guitar parts that Neil Hubbard had played, but he's always quite gracious about that.
Perhaps my favourite track is Prussian Blue with Phil at his best and some epic drumming by Steve Gadd.
